An American auto company?

I am getting sick watching these Hyundai/Kia ads that they are an "American" auto company and have great wages and benefits. When you try to check, it is hard to find out except at one plant they pay $20 for wages and benefits. Yep, $20 frickin dollars an hour for wages and benefits. That is a lot worse than our entry level!!! Then they funnel all there profits back to Korea. A real frickin "American" auto company!

The name Kia and Hyundai kind of gives it away that it is a real American company  Those commercials (and toyota before them) in which the foreign companies wrap themselves in the American flag cater to the ignorant and are more like political public service announcements. In essense, the majority (not all) of Americans could care less where the car is built or if it has an effect on the American economy. This is true of most products, unfortunately. On an even deeper level, most Americans do not know that transplants result in no additional jobs. It is a zero sum game: a plant that opens in Alabama, Mississippi, or Tennessee means that a Big Three plant in Michigan, Ohio, or Wisconsin closes.

You have got to hand it to the transplants, they did a great job of buying assholes like senator Dick Shelby of Alabama and Michelle Bachmann who will go to bat for the foreign automakers. It is no suprise that these transplant operations were built in "red states" with no one state having a majority of the plants. The goal is to buy the politicians to advance the interests of themselves, and they play the American game of politics well. These public service announcements advance that cause.

I remember what you are saying. All these foreign companies passing themselves off as American and the Republicans totally supporting them and trying to destroy us. I tell you the Republicans are the most anti-American unpatriotic sons of bitches in this country. And you know what else? Many of my union brothers support these aholes!!! It makes me sick!!!
