Why do I have a key slot in my door?

in my 2012 Focus Titanium it doesn't have any "keys" just the key FOB.... so why does mine have a key slot in the driver's side door? Did I get the wrong handle installed by the factory? Or am I supposed to have a traditional key as backup? I can't think of any other reason why I'd have a key entry in my door. Can anyone shed some light on this? (Preferably someone who works at the Focus assembly plant)

Thanks!

If your car or transmitter battery dies, it allows you to get in the car. Your dealer should have gone over this with you.

If you squeeze the two 'buttons' on the sides of the key fob right now at the key ring, the ford emblem pops off, and there is a cut key in there.

The newer keyless fob design has a small slider on the back of it that pops the cut key out.

Ah, I thought that was just for different model lines - I thought all the Foci used the squeeze to open - I knew some Ford lines used the slide off.

Thanks
