Ron Richlinski
I have a 2012 Focus sel. I recently parked my car at home and after about a half hour or so, I Went back to car and discovered the radio and MFT screen was on and some dash lights were also on with the car parked and off and locked! I brought the car back to dealer and they told me this was normal. REALLY? normal? They also said that sync performs updates during the night. I also discovered that you can turn the radio on and off with no key in. I have never known of any car in my life functioning like this without a key in and turned to the acc. position.Does anyone else have this "normal" condition in their Focus? Thanks, Ron. svtenthusiast
No it's not normal, but probably a glitch with MyFord touch. Only thing you can try before Ford releases the next software update (hopefully by the end of this year) is reset the system by pulling the fuse or the cable on the battery. Your dealer was blowing you off, there are no updates that it does automatically. The "performing maintenance" screen you may get is simply the system rebooting. MKII
Not sure about the North American Focus, but in Euro spec Focus the radio will work for approximately 1 hour, and turn off automatically so as not to run down the battery without the car on acc . But you need to turn the audio on,it won't do it by itself Never experienced or heard of other Focus owners having the audio turn on by itself though. But we do not have MFT yet. Ron Richlinski
I will also add to this post that The sync specialist at the dealer showed me his 2012 focus and demonstrated that it did the exact same thing as my car. So I had to walk away scratching my head in disbelief. I just can't buy their explanation. That is why I had to come here to find out if anyone else see's the same symptoms in their car. I would expect the dealer to remove the battery cable and or reset /reboot any fuses cpu's etc. I should not have to do this myself on a brand new car. Thanks, Ron. emerrill
Few things: Assuming you didn't hit the MFT power button after turning off the car, it is not normal for it to be on 30 minutes later, but not really a huge concern, it will eventually powerdown, and there is a separate system that forces it off before it can really drain the battery anyways. The system will reboot itself (and display the 'system maintenance' screen once every few days, so you don't really need to reset it, it will do it anyways within about a week. If you really want to though, one of the fuses in the passenger footwell will do it. Yes, it is normal that you can hit the power button and turn the stereo on even with no keys. This is largely a side-effect of the cars with push-button start, as they do no have Accessory mode (they only have off/on/start), so they made it where the stereo will function for 1 hour by pressing the power button. NickF1011
If the entire gauge cluster is on and other lights are on besides the MFT screen, I wouldn't immediately chalk this up to being a MFT bug (as much as everyone wants to pile on it). After all, MFT has nothing directly to do with controlling the gauges and other interior lights.
