TX Senator Ted Cruz (R) Against Immigration Reform

Recommended Posts

Tea Party darling, Senator Ted Cruz ® TX Voted against the Senate Immigration Reform Bill. Claims its not fair for "Illegals" to gain access to legal residency when those who entered legally may now end up at the end of the same line. What a Hoot! Odd, don`t you think since he being a "Canadian" of Cuban decent along with his Pal, Senator Marco Rubio ® FL also Cuban, and a Son of Immigrants (not Exiles) which he lied about previously, are the only ones that have "Special" Immigration Status where anyone from Cuban that (illegally) enters the US and doesn`t get apprehended at Sea and is able to reach land gets Automatic permanent residency status and an eventual Pathway to Citizenship. How Special. Why? A half century old Wet Foot - Dry Foot Policy left over from the era of the Cold War that allows (only) Cubans this privilege. No other Nation in the World including our closest Allies have this benefit. How dare either Ted Cruz or Marco Rubio have anything to say on Immigration Reform when they already are the only ones excluded!

We had good relations with Cuba in 1956 when Rubio's family emigrated tho the US. They weren't fleeing communism. Our "Friend" Fulgencio Batista was the Cuban leader, running a corrupt, violent kleptocracy that was very good for a small number of wealthy land owners and American business interests, including organized crime. Castro overthrew the Batista government on New Years Eve 1958.Batista fled to the US with millions.

Like most revolutionaries, Castro had no idea how to make the government work for the people. His ministers spent most of their time carrying out vendettas against the remaining Batista loyalists who remained and generally screwing things up for the poor by destroying Cuban tourism that supported a lot of jobs. Castro initially tried to meet with Eisenhower in 1960, he got VP Nixon instead and they instantly hated each other. Castro's revolution came at the height of the US/USSR Cold War and again Castro miscalculated and tried to overplay his hand. He was correct about the threat from the US as proven by the ill-concieved and poorly executed Bay of Pigs invasion. That fiasco simply drove Cuba closer to Khruschev.
