Ford's redesigned Super Duty pickup raises performance ante

DETROIT -- Ford Motor Co. used the weight savings from an aluminum body to beef up the capabilities of its Super Duty pickups, which it says will beat the competition in towing, payload, torque and diesel horsepower ratings.

Highlights:

 

- F250, F350 and F450 are up to 350 lbs lighter than 2016 versions

 

- Frame is 95% HT Steei and 24 times stiffer than old model

 

F450 SuperCrew 4x4 towing

- Conventional Hitch : 21,000 lbs or 1,000 lbs greater than nearest rival

- Gooseneck Hitch: 32,500 lbs or 1,290 lbs greater than top competitor

- Fifth wheel trailer: 27,500 lbs or 2,500 lbs more than any other HD Pick Up.

- Maximum Gross Combined Weight Rating with Trailer is 41,800

 

- F250 and F350 Single Rear Wheel and standard hitch can tow 18,000 lbs

- F350 max payload is 7,630 lbs - Class leading

- F250 max payload is 4,200 lbs or 600 lbs more than any competitor

 

- 6.7 V8 Diesel Engine : 440 HP and 920 lb ft - without special tuning or hardware.

- 6.2 V8 Gas engine: 385 HP and 430 lb ft - Beats Silverado 2500 but Ram 2500 has 410 HP / 429 lb ft.

 

 

Ford said the redesigned Super Duty will be the first pickup to offer adaptive cruise control and a collision-warning system with brake support for trailers up to 32,500 pounds.
