PennDOT Rust Compound

Recommended Posts

This is what PennDOT calls "Traction Compound", a mixture of limestone chips and salt. I call it Rust Compound. First the limestone knocks your paint off and then the salt starts the rusting process.

What you see it the photo is what I hosed off the bottom of my truck. Most of it was lodged inside the rear wheels where it was obviously causing a severe imbalance of the rear tires.

When I lived in PA, I went to knock off some snow from the inner fender and my foot went right through the fender.  There was no sign of rust on the outside, but it was gone on the inside.
