igor
this is from the blurb on the new mondeo on Insideline: Gearbox options will include a six-speed manual and a six-speed automatic. It is likely that a six-speed double-clutch unit, now under development in a joint venture between Ford and Getrag, will be added when a planned 300-horsepower 2.5-liter five-cylinder ST performance version of the new Mondeo bows in 2008. http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do/News/articleId=116903 I was worried Ford was found flatfooted by the sucess of VW's DSG .. especially in europe this is big news and Automatics (traditional slushboxes) are not very popular there - but DSG and other "robotic" transmissions are gaining traction. we can only hope that this will make it to NA ... other Gertrag transmisisons did. EDIT: let me continue my Waa Waa ambulance routine: Mercury Mondeo Mercury Mondeo :D Igor Edited September 23, 2006 by igor
Edstock
Ford Europe already offers a powered 5-speed transmission, but I do not know if it is a twin-clutch design, or if it is made by Getrag. However, the VW-Borg-Warner DSG is the way to go, and Ford can't get that Getrag next to the 3.5 V-6 fast enough.
Hugh
Even though there was some hype about "Manu-matics" This DSG is the real deal and Ford should get on with it since there CVT is apparently out. Too bad really because it is an effective tranny.
waymondospiff
Sounds good. Hopefully it won't get cancelled. Like the 4.4L for the MKS. Or the V6 CVTs in the D3s. Will this sucker make its way to the US for, say, a Focus ST or a Fusion ST. Maybe Mazda could pluck it for the next RX-8 or MazdaSpeed models? Here's hoping.
