Jerry52 Posted August 11, 2022 Share Posted August 11, 2022 Has anyone tried connecting their Garmin InReach to the Ford SYNC 3, I have the Ford Connect, and the AT&T WIFI all set up. I was hoping to be able to connect our InReach to the SYNC 3 Navigation or the AT&T phone number assigned to the WIFI. If it can’t be done we’ll just connect the InReach to a Smart phone and call it good. I do a lot of Basecamp camping while my daughter hikes trails and using InReach we can stay in touch. I’m not very tech savvy but were going to try and figure it out this weekend and any ideas or comments would be helpful. I think I’ll need to download the Earthmate App on my SYNC 3 if possible. I've never thought of that! I have one, but use it exclusively with my android phone (and EarthMate, which has sadly stopped working well) ... with that, I don't how you could do it, but I guess I've never thought of it ... sorry for the useless reply, but please update the thread if you figure it out! In the Sync3's Settings menu, there is a list of apps available to install. I have an inReach- compatible Garmin Zumo XT, the motorcycle oriented GPS. inReach is satellite-based, and works without any cellular signal. So even if you got linked to your Sync 3, which I believe is AT&T 4G (no LTE)-based, it would have only the range of whatever the signal is where you are, regardless of what your smartphone carrier's signal is. The same with using your smart phone. On the inReach app, there is a list of compatible satellite-based devices, which will give you communication independent of cell coverage.
