A/C failure

Recommended Posts

I am a member on other SuperDuty forums and I am astonished that there are almost no mentions on this forum of the large number of AC failures happening since the turn of the year on SuperDuty trucks.  They are being reported in big numbers elsewhere! So here goes:

F450 Chassis Cab, 7.3L gas, manufacture date 8-12 April 24, collected from dealer in Billings MT 19 June, AC failed 950 miles later on 25th June whilst driving through rural Oregon at 100°+. Still waiting on local dealer in Oregon to even diagnose the problem (fortunately I don't need the truck until the end of the year - don't ask,  long story). I am told there is at least a months wait on replacement compressors. This is happening a lot on trucks built since the end of 23. What's happening, Ford???

I have documented via a spreadsheet over 50 owners who reported their Suoer Duty trucks built in March/April/May time frame with compressor failures.  Mine failed on the way home from the dealership and I brought it in with 129 miles on odometer.  Currently there is a 10 week wait to get a replacement compressor.

What gives?

Obviously a bad batch from the supplier.

Yes, that's fairly obvious - there are many, many owners with trucks that are (at best) highly unpleasant to drive in the summer heat, and in some cases unusable as transport for families on vacation in this heat. On the Super Duty FB groups and the SuperDuty forums, there are hundreds of people complaining, and there are huge delays in getting replacement parts sent out to dealers - 6 to 10 weeks is not unheard of. What is unheard of is a comment from Ford or even an acknowledgement of the problem. As the owner of a brand new truck with no aircon, I for one am pretty unhappy.

It definitely sucks especially in the summer.  But they’re getting replacement parts out as quickly as possible so I’m not sure what else you think Ford should be telling you.   They probably had faulty equipment at the factory that had to be fixed and all the bad ones trashed and production restarted.  Stuff like that takes time.

These failures have been going on since the turn of the year. Zero communication from ford, now up to 10 weeks delay in getting compressors out to dealers. That's just not acceptable,  especially as they continue to churn out SuperDuty trucks with the same problem. Some dealers have got 6 or 7 NEW trucks waiting for compressors.

I have heard of up to 3000 on backorder. I am hoping that once the problem was identified, the trucks rolling off the assembly line started getting good compressors.
