g48150
From this article on Reuters Mulally has said Ford has: "too many models, too many platforms, too many different components," This is an easy one, Fordish translation: "From the standpoint of global synergies, it has come to pass that since decisions are made at a more or less regional level, this has become a non-starter in terms of efficiencies that could possibly be solved by the conglomeration of operations at the NAPD operational level, execution is critical to solve our synergistic problem, as suppliers increasingly become hostile (see Hermosillo and the IP 'delay') we must seek to include synergistic energies towards commonplace parts as the GPDS function of becoming in synergy with our Way Forward targets and the Brand DNA operational targets that exist for customer satisfaction" Yeah, you wonder why they get so long winded? This is what Ford needs though, an abbreviated version of how to do business, Lord knows they like it long winded... I believe that Nasser wanted a "global car design center" or something along those lines, ah "The Knife" how we hardly knew ye...
ZanatWork
We knew Jac long enough for Ford's car programs to be well behind the competition...but to be fair, Jac was finishing what Trotman started.
metroplex
Ford does not have "too many models". If you compare Ford to GM or Toyota, you will see that Ford doesn't offer nearly as many platforms as GM or Toyota.
