FLLMTR
Ford continues to deform the front bumper for a license plate. However, many states do not require the plate so owners are stuck with an ugly front end. Other manufacturers use a metal bracket that mounts from under the front bumper and holds the plate. This allows owners in states that do not require a front plate to have a smooth, non-deformed front bumper. Believe me, it is a little touch that does make an appearance difference.
Roadrunner
While it is true they did this with the Five Hundred, they did not with the Edge or Fusion. Don't know what to tell you. Additional info: The Focus will continue to have a divot for a front plate, according to reveal shots. NickF1011
Sadly, more and more states are requiring a front plate. It will probably be mandatory in all 50 before we know it. I do agree that a formed plastic bracket or metal bracket are nicer options though. I'll take the front plate off of my Cobra occasionally, just to take photos of it. Certainly looks nicer without a flat gap there where you know a plate is supposed to go.
Roadrunner
Yes and no. Incidentally, in Arizona, they stopped doing front plates around 1988.
Mr. KABC
Mustang GT front end doesn't have a blank space for a plate. Mustang v6 does. Here in CA we are required to have front plates. Unfortunately.
Dedonut
Mustang GT front end doesn't have a blank space for a plate. Mustang v6 does. Here in CA we are required to have front plates. Unfortunately. I have a 2011 Lincoln MKZ and would like a more traditional frame on the front. If I take off the big, bulky frame the dealer is required to put on here in CA, is it then necessary to drill holes to accommodate another type of frame? Is there any other way? Will probably require different holes unfortunately. Legislation was recently introduced here in MD trying to do away with front plates as a cost-saving measure. It failed. After my post, I found this online and ordered the mounting plate. They also have just the straight mounting bracket. When I get it, I'll post back on how well it works http://www.traffictalk.com/tt/product/?pid=
