  1. Someone needs to chop a trapazoidal lower air intake on the Crown Vic so it will be updated with the Kinetic look... I am sure the Middle East version of the Crown Vic has plans in place to replace the "Special Edition" Gillette grille..
  2. They could have done a little more with a 45th anniversary commemoration like offer some special paint and/or interior trim combos. I had the 1999 Mustang 35th anniversary model and all it had was a special fender badge also.
  3. The Jetsons are sure getting their money's worth out of their 1995 Ford Taurus...
  4. I think it is funny they cover up the Mustang badges with black tape as if no one is going to suspect it is a Mustang with them covered up...
  5. I like the grille design. The fog lamps suck. And they need to get rid of Joan River's eyes for headlamps...
  6. People bought Pintos in 1974 not because they were pretty.. Because they were good on gas during the gas crisis... Throw in Sync and you got a sale simply because no competition offers it...
  7. Everytime I think about a Mark IV I think about that TV show Cannon who drove a silver one..
  8. Ford wouldn't attempt a version in the North American market. It would eat into precious Mustang Convertible sales. Never mind that Baskin Robbins can sell many dfferent favors of icecream without sales of vanilla and chocolate hurting...
  9. Now that is fuckin hilarious! And to think she used to have Farrah Fawcett's hair!
  10. No this is what a good interior looks like... And the one on the right is special for you jpd80!
  11. I always loved those XL's! A freind of mine used to have one back in the 1970's. It was a cinnamon color with a white vinyl roof, white interior with black carpet and trim. She had chrome Cragar mags on it... She kept it after she got her brand new 1978 Thunderbird in Midnight Blue with chamois interior and split vinyl top.
  12. What I meant to say was the 2.9 was never used in any Capri nor any Mustang... Only the 2.8 was used in Capris and Mustangs. The 2.9 was used in Sierras, Euro Granadas, and Scorpios while a truck block for North American vehicles was made for Rangers and Bronco II's. The truck engine was famous for compromises in design and reliability problems. Cologne Engines Ford Capri Ford Cologne V6 The 4.0 liter V6 in my Mustang is a Cologne engine. The design is so changed that it is not the same engine as earlier Cologne engines. People have found out that Ford has under reported the horsepower of the 4.0 engine in the Mustang which actually does better than 210 HP.
  13. The Cologne engine was a 2.8 liter, not a 2.9... My step father had a 1976 Capri II when it was new and I loved it...
  14. Your 79 Mustang looks really good. It's nice to see one in a like new shape. I remember when these cars first came out.
  15. The original Capri was not a Mercury. It was sold simply as a Capri sold through Lincoln-Mercury dealers. It was slang to call it a Mercury Capri. It was later redesigned into a hatchback and sold as a Capri II in 1976. It did not become a Mercury Capri until 1979 when it was a twin to the Mustang. In the 1950's, there was a Lincoln Capri. Whether or not Mercury continues to exist or it's put out of it's misery, there would be validity in offering a Lincoln Capri or just simply a Capri sold through Ford or Lincoln dealers. The Euro Capri was also a Ford, so they could be sold through Ford dealers as well. Anyway, swapping around nameplates is nothing new. There were Lincoln Capris, Lincoln Zephyrs, Mercury Capris and Mercury Zephyrs. Then there was the Ford Cougar sold in Europe. Also, the Cougar name originated as oe of the front runners to the original Mustang as a nameplate, not to mention there were Ford Cougar two seat concept cars that preceeded the Mustang. The point is, to preserve some really good nameplates and fill some niches in the likelyhood Mercury goes away, those nameplates can be sold as either Fords or Lincolns. Of course Lincoln is obsessed with everything MK so that might be a problem.
  16. Exposed lights like the Milan/Sable would be very un-Cougar like. Either small dual round beams or lamps hidden behind grille panels would be better.
  17. I like the suggestion of a retro-Cougar front end with the twim waterfall grille. It would cetainly look like nothing else on the road. I like what you did with the thin strips of lights at the bottom of the grilles. Imagine they are a row of LED's that light up white but perhaps have amber LED's also included in the ends for the turn signals when flashing.
  18. The 79-86 Capri was always offered with all the same engine options as the Mustang including the GT's 5.0 V8. Yes there was a 3.3 Liter I-6 engine which was used during a 2.8 liter V6 engine shortage starting in mid 1979. The 3.3 liter I-6 was the only 6-cyl. used in Fairmonts and Zephyrs from the get-go in 1978. With the 2.8 liter V6 engine shortage, the 3.3 liter I-6 was a direct drop into Mustangs and Capris since they used the same Fox platform. In 1981, the Fox platform Thunderbird and Cougar got their first ever 6-cylinder engines which was also the 3.3 liter I-6. In 1983, it was replaced with a new 3.8 liter V6. That 3.8 liter V6 was also phased into the Mustangs, Capri, and the mid-sized LTD and Marquis.
  19. It wasn't recycled. The US Capri was offered from 1979-86 as a virtual twin to the Mustang. It did have a unique hood, all front end parts, unique fenders and quarter panels that included blisters, and different taillamps. 1983 brought a Mercury LN-7 style bubbled rear window and a new rear bumper fascia and taillamps.
  20. They are real cast aluminum wheels. They were offered first on the Fairmont/Zephyr line in for 1978 and used on the Mustang/Capri for 1979. Those wheels were modeled after ones used on European and Austrailian Fords. The 1978 Fiesta offered a set as well. On the Ford trucks they were actually wheel covers. There was a manufacturer of wheel covers that modeled that style after the real wheels and I used a set of 13" ones on my Cobra II way back in 1981. You can see them in my signature picture. The real four bolt wheels will retro-fit to Pintos and Mustang II's.
  21. Notice this thread has posters with few post counts. People like this always show up to defend anything negative as if they were planted by Ford to spin and manage damage control.
  22. No light in the glovebox of the Mustang but then again Idont use it enough to miss it. However when I installed my LED ambient lighting, I put a blue LED in the console compartment which I use all the time. I don't need oh-shit handles in my Mustang. You sit in the seats not on them and it has no body roll in curves... My Mustang has a trunk release. It's on the remote key fob. I have found no use for a seperate button in the car.
  23. Well good to know there is nothing there to make me wish I had the newer model. The interior may have some bits that are more desireable. It will be interesting to see if there will be anything inside worth retrofitting if it can be done.
