We can't go 4 10's because body shop is unable to keep up. This question was asked to the plant manager when he did a walk around a few months ago. Most of us would absolutely love to go on 4 10 hour days even without the OT premium.

Great post!!! You seem to be a common sense auto worker. We often discuss these issues on the line on a daily basis. The democrat party will do more harm to the domestic auto industry and the UAW leadership will still support them. Both Obama and Clinton will raise taxes on corporations. Who do we work for? They will push for extreme increases in fuel economy. This hurts the domestic auto industry. Bush should have vetoed the energy bill or at least insisted on drilling for oil in the Alaskan refuge and off shore. He has been disappointing to many of us conservatives. We are also considered rich by the democrat party and we are in the upper 50% of taxpayers that account for over 90% of the taxes. Remember, people who paid no federal taxes will still be getting a tax rebate check. I wonder how much the illegals are getting? Once again that was a good post and worth reading. Have a nice day!!!

You neglect to mention who built that new mall. Contractors, electricians, plumbers, masons, etc. Those are good paying jobs. What kind of vehicles did these tradesman and their companies drive? Econolines, F-series pick-ups. Please try to look at the big picture. You liberals only see the negative in everything.

Gas prices would not be through the roof if we were able to drill for oil in parts of Alaska and off the coast of Florida, etc. It's called the law of supply and demand. It's you liberal democrats who hate nuclear power, oil, coal, and anything else we could do on our own in this country. Remember what you do for a living. The democrats will push those fuel standards so high that the domestic auto industry will go bankrupt. Our profits are based on SUV's, pick-up trucks, Mustang, and Econoline. All of these are inefficient as far as fuel economy goes, but they have saved Ford. Be realistic and think of all the wonderful things the democrats have done for the auto industry. It does not matter what you claim on your W-4. The bonus comes under the federal gift tax rules. The current fed rate is now 25%. The gift tax rate was 20% under President Bush's dad. Clinton raised it to 28%. The current president got it down to 25% and might have gotten it lower with a more conservative congress. If you prefer a higher rate then I suggest you continue to vote democrat.

You obviously don't know what you are talking about. Ohio Assembly Plant has the oldest body shop in the Ford system, but manages to meet its production goals. The Econoline is not exactly the easiest make/model to produce. We do an excellent job considering the worst management team Bill Ford could find. The slugs who don't come to work are taken care of and thanked by their supervisors when they show up. Meanwhile the hard working people who can't get a personal day because of the slug get work added to them. You can't add work to people who don't come to work. So, if 60-80 % of us are sorry then how do quality trucks come off that line at 46-49 per hour? You're just like the mainstream media and assume that we are all slugs. This is one of the best posts I have read in a long time. You are absolutely correct in your comments on management and the union. Both of these knuckleheads have brought the BIG 3 down. The guy and gal who come to work every day are the ones who carry the company. The public perception of the BIG 3 and UAW would be better if management stopped crying about legacy costs and built vehicles that people wanted to buy and the UAW needs to stop protecting people who don't want to work.

Thanks to the new and improved Democrat Congress we now have lost more UAW jobs. Since the Dems want to raise the corporate average fuel economy (CAFE) Chrysler has decided to kill the new Imperial. I just want to know why Gettelfinger is not screaming loud and long about this nonsense. If an American wants a car that gets 12 miles to the gallon then so be it. Way to go Ronny. Why should Washington tell us what to buy or what to build? We are not running out of oil and if somebody wants an eight mile per gallon hummer than that is up to them. You're not paying for the vehicle or the gas that goes in it. This is the United States and we purchase what we want because we like it and we can afford it. You sound like you want the government to design your vehicle for you. Also, how safe will all those super light vehicles getting that wonderful gas mileage be? Where is Gettlefinger on this subject? He's silent cuz it's his democrat buddies sticking it to the Big 3 again.

You're right on the money TCAP'er. The GOP did not cause Ford's demise. The economy is actually doing quite well and the stock market is ready to close at 12,000 which has never been done. The only thing you get when the Dems take over is guaranteed higher taxes and more rights for terrorists. If you want Nancy "the San Francisco Democrat" Pelosi as speaker of the house then I feel sorry for you and even more sorry for our country.

I am not trying to stir the pot, only looking for an answer. I was told by a reliable committeeman that Lorain Assembly personnel cannot vote until they are at OHAP for one year. He said that Local 425 had the same by-law and that is where we got it from. Anybody clarify?
