  1. I think a EB V8 (of any size) would just rock so much. There is no way I couldn't buy one.
  2. Not only do I own a truck, I have @ 213,000 miles on my 04 F150 5.4L. No work done.
  3. My reason is that Ford has stated the life expectancy of the turbos in a EB is 150,000 miles. I would expect the other engines to not have components that would fail by 150M.
  4. Yup fuel economy while towing and long term durability... thats where the baby diesel woudl have advantages. I know when I cruntch th enumbres on the SD... I can't justify the diesel. Unless you tow 75%+ of your miles. And on a half ton why woudl you be towing that much? I've said this numerous times but in a perfect world we need a 5+1 truck comparo. 10,000 lb pull up a step hill, drag race empty & full, long cruise for mpg etc.. the std stuff. All trucks as close as posible: Crew cab 4wd alriats for example: a) 2010 5.4L B) 'Still born' 4.4L Diesel c) 5.0L Coyote V8 d) 3.5L EB V6 e) 6.2L V8 and either a GM 6.2 or a TuRD 5.7L for comarisons sake. I'd be really curious as to what would happen, especially up the hill with 10,000 lbs! My Guess(Fords only): Tow up the long step hill: 1) 3.5L EB 2) 6.2L V8 3) 4.4L Diesel big gap 4) 5.0L Coyote Last..... Still waiting ) 5.4L Drag race: 1) 3.5L EB 2) 6.2L V8 Big gap 3) 5.0L Coyote V8 4) 4.4L Diesel 5) 5.4L MPG loooog cruise interstate: 1) 3.5L EB 2) 4.4L Diesel 3) 5.0L Coyote V8 Big gap 4) 6.2L V8 5) 5.4L MG Long cruise while towing 10,000 lbs 1) 4.4L Diesel 2) 3.5L EB 3) 6.2L V8 4) 5.0L Coyote V8 5) 5.4L V8 Long term durabilty: 1) 4.4L Diesel 2) 6.2L V8 3) 5.0L V8 4) 5.4L V8 (ignoring cam phasers etc) 5) 3.5 EB When I go through this and look at it... The EB may be the engine to have? Two small turbos can't cost THAT much when they get tired? Just my 2 pesos . :blah:
  5. Roughly the same performance? Even if you don't buy the increased MPG, given its flat from 1500 rpm torque "curve"... same performance? What am I missing? http://farmindustrynews.com/trucks/0901-ford-ecoboost-engine/ I guess most don't believe the EB will have that much of a price premium. certainly not to the level of what the baby diesel would have required with its CGI block etc. There was a quote way back where a Ford rep said their additional cost for a EB was $700, but is that over a non-EB 3.5 or a 5.4L?
  6. Hmm so based on Aug 16 order ban opening we can expect order guide around the same time then....
  7. OK you point out stupidity and then say the EB has near the same tourque curve of the 5.4L? Ummm... Pot meet kettle. The EBs tourque "curve" is just little bit better than the 5.4L.
  8. Umm yes, but if its cold enough, the factory Ford batterys don't have enough. Thats the point.
  9. Well not sure where you guys live, but where I live it gets pretty friggin cold come winter and depsite the 0-20 syn oil, and typically being able to plug in the block heater, sometimes you still rely on your battery. And when the factory Ford battery has relativly low CCA at least compared to what we'd all buy as a replacment battery... that sux. Not sure when ford decieded to cheap out... but they did. So in summary no the Ford is not better than an Optima. Whatever I'd buy that has more CCA than the stock battery, would be better than the factory Ford battery.
  10. Must be a Ford guy out there that can help us out?
  11. Interesting. I too would like to know answer to that Q!
  12. I totally agree. I recently read how much lighter the EB was vs the 5.4L but I can't recall how much, or where? I wonder how much of the weight penalty is due to the iron block (vs. GM 6.2L alum)
  13. I understand. Some Ford models come with pretty weak batteries. When its dead and ruining your day, you kinda wish you had just replaced it when you had the chance. I will do the same with my next new Ford. Warranty doesn't help when your batt is dead somewhere on a rainy day.
  14. Your saying they're all BS? I find they can all handle much much more than the sticker indicates. Here's my point, a 2009 F150 SCrew Platinum had a actual payload stcker that could read as low as @ 760 lbs. (loaded Platinum 4wd) Now you drop in an engine that weighs an extra 150lbs and your @ 500 lbs of payload. Avg weight of american male is 189.2 lbs. I believe payload includes 150 lb driver. So with driver & 3 passengers all avg males, you are now @ 100 lbs over your payload rating. Never mind all the other lbs from the accessories you added. Ford did adjust is somewhat for 2010 on some models. So if you think the payload #s are bloated, I disagree. However if your saying the max towing ratings are bloated, your 100% right. Not that they can't pull it, its just your SO far over GVWR, and GAWR even with minimal tounge weight. Tow ratings are a farce. I'd like to know how much lighter the EB is vs. the 6.2L.
  15. Hmmm I wonder how long until the F150 order guide is out? Sept? :reading:
  16. So now we know, 6.2L is 150lbs heavier than a 5.4L. Not good for the F150's limited real world payload!
  17. 2011 F150 production starts Nov 22.
  18. Well Gm has a higher GVW on their vortec max/max tow units in 07/08/09 (7,300lbs) all while being @ 4-500 lbs lighter than an equivilant F150. It can and has been done. For '10 Ford bumped GVWR/payload and GAWR to at least match GM in real world payload limits. (max tow vs. max tow) For 2010 Fords max GVW 7,800 (6.5 bed) is exactly 500lbs more than the max GM 7,300. BTW, this is crew cabs I'm talking about (doesn't include Fords HD pkg which is N/A in Crew)
  19. Sorry I didn't follow those previous threads about your job. I really couldn't care less. Not "touching anything". I apologize for debating your statments. How dare I! Obviously based on what you've said Ford is doing a tremendous job keeping the all new F150 under wraps and away from prying eyes. Great for business but sux for us customers/fans. I'm half tempted to wait for a all new one in @ 18 months now. Heck my 04 can hold out a little longer. Only has @ 215,000 miles. I'd think the new one would have some of the new features the new SD has. Locking box below rear seat would be nice! I 'd LOVE a bump in GVW maybe 8,400lbs with higher rear GAWR. New messge center, 110 volt plug woudl all be nice additions. LED lights at least out back. Key will be lighter weight especially in crew cab form.
  20. OK. Given the reporting embargo on the EB F150 ends at the end of the year it has to be close.
