  1. Not quite sure where you are going with this or what your agenda is but you only have three posts and I doubt you are new here. If you are tired of the lies from Ford and the Union then save yourself brother. Don't put up with the lies and go work someplace where you wont be so "tired". You listed a bunch of items and declared the company a winner. Some of my observations 1. We knew St Thomas was closing years ago, they just delayed it a bit. The few extra years the union got for these people means nothing i guess. 2. St Thomas people are getting a severence plus almost two years notice, have a look around and see how other workers that dont have the CAW fare when their plant closes. 3. I guess a Globe Platform doesn't help the workers but you must have some insider info and know all the details. 4. and 5 Our Spa is converted to 40 hours of Holidays. If everybody takes their holidays then you still need coverage for those weeks. We lost the other Spa week at the last concession. 6. I dont see many people getting wage increases and Cola Outside the CAW. Be glad that they are just Frozen. 7. A third shift makes no sense. A third shift only gives Ford and extra 3 and change hours of production. Does that warrent hiring an entire crew. If two shifts work 10 hours then thats 20 hours of production right there 8. The benefits might hit the pocket book and It might not. It depends on your situation and the benefits that are cut, need more information. Im not worried about wages, cola, vacation and benefits. All that stuff you can get back in the future. 9. Skilled trades.. Welders are done, one has already been informed of this.. They want to cut some numbers but it remains to be seen how they decide to do it. Perhaps with attrition. Dont know. This is the topic that will sway my vote I still enjoy my job and will happily do it, when I stop enjoying it I will seek work elsewhere. I'm not really sure what you were expecting with this contract or how you expect a business to treat their employees. As far as the CAW, maybe some people are lying to you. If you ask a question that you dont know the answer to then you are setting yourself up. If you do know somebody is lying to you then call them out. You will have a Mic at the hearing tomorrow.
  2. Why I will not vote No. I will not vote no because there are a bunch of posters screaming vote no because they are thinking of themselves first and how this affects them. I will not vote no just because there are concessions. I will wait to listen to what the union has to say before i vote yes or I vote no. STAP. Sorry about your luck. OAC backed you last contract but you did not back yourself so now you have to look in the mirror. The time to develop a backbone is not now. The time was last contract when you collectively voted yes. Some your members come on here and bad mouth OAC and their workers, quality, bash the CAW etc. then quickly put in a VOTE NO. Why are you afraid of letting people make up their own minds instead of trying to influence them for your own selfish reasons. Go to the Hall and listen to what the CAW has to say. If you don't like it then vote No if you dont like it or if you think the closure package could be better. If its acceptable then vote yes. I will see how this affects the Skilled Trades and Retirees before I decide which way to vote.
  3. Oakville stepped up and said no at the last round of concessions. Why didnt STAP stand with us then? I have no idea on how Oakville will vote this time around.
  4. Ford has developed a new way of painting cars. They will Prime, Basecoat and clearcoat all in one booth without having to let the prior coat dry. This will eliminate two booths, a couple of ovens and will require fewer people to run while increasing paint quality. http://ca.news.finance.yahoo.com/s/0408200...able-paint.html DEARBORN, Mich., Aug. 4 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- -- Ford-exclusive (NYSE: F) paint technology goes global -- Ford's high-solids paint technology eliminates the need for process stages in a paint shop, replacing bulky, energy-consuming equipment with a simple, integrated booth -- Process allows three layers of paint to be applied one after another while still wet, without manual intervention, resulting in a superior product created with fewer pollutants and less expense -- While Ford's global paint portfolio continues to expand, the new technology will be launched in the U.S. at the newly revamped Michigan Assembly Plant
  5. I asked this question earlier and Nobody seemed to have an answer. Will STAP even be allowed to vote on concessions? If they are slated to close they might only be allowed to vote on the closure package. If that's the case then No Commitment = A No Concessions is not even an option. I read somewhere that Ford isn't even going to ask STAP for concessions because they are closing.
  6. Not sure about this but couldn't Ford negotiate with just Windsor and Oakville for concessions. I read somewhere that they don't want any concessions from STAP and the only thing they want to discuss with STAP is terms of closure. The Concessions will come from the other CAW plants.
  7. Costa Rica abolished all military spending and their military and spends the money on other things such as education.. Its in their constitution. So... who is threatening them? On December 1, 1948, President José Figueres Ferrer of Costa Rica abolished the country's army after victory in the civil war in that year.[1] In a ceremony in the Cuartel Bellavista, Figueres broke a wall with a mallet symbolizing the end of Costa Rica's military spirit. In 1949, the abolition of the military was introduced in Article 12 of the Costa Rican Constitution. José Figueres Ferrer breaking a wall of the Cuartel Bellavista symbolizing the abolition of the Military. The budget previously dedicated to the military now is dedicated to security, education and culture; the country maintains Police Guard forces. The museum Museo Nacional de Costa Rica was placed in the Cuartel Bellavista as a symbol of commitment to culture. In 1986, President Oscar Arias Sánchez declared December 1 as the Día de la Abolición del Ejército (Military abolition day) with Law #8115. Unlike its neighbors, Costa Rica has not endured a civil war since 1948.
  8. By looking here.. Ken would think there are 7 No Votes. If he thought the entire plant would vote it down do you think ken would even waste his time talking about an extension. I think he would focus on a closure agreement and buyout packages.
  9. Wow.. Better hope EI doesnt find out.
  10. I'm not stirring anything. The only way he can stay off and not get in trouble is if he booked holidays, otherwise he has to be available for work. Not showing up you are considered AWOL. After 5 AWOL days the computer spits out your termination papers. You cant even sit at home and not answer the phone because you have to be willing and able to work if you are collecting comp. I know a couple of guys that got called in mid week. They had no choice but to get their asses in.
  11. You have to be ready, willing and able to work. If you refuse, you will not get EI or sub and worse.. They could mark you AWOL and fire your ass after a 5 days. So.. enjoy the sunshine...
  12. Is your new position as good as the job you had in Paint?
  13. You comments swayed my vote. I'll leave it at that.
  14. Free benefits? What free benefits? Every company i have worked for i have received benefits. At every one of those companies the benefits have been the same or better. Ford has one of the worst dental plans i have seen. Teachers have better benefits, Government both Federal and provincial have better benefits, Hydro has better benifits as do other utilities. Steel companies have better benefits. Ford is the 1st place i have worked where you dont get any sick days. The Government employees get 12 sick days a year, if they go over the 12 they get put in a program where they get another 120 plus sick days that year. Oh and it resets every year. Teachers, Police all get sick days and they get to carry them over if they are unused.
