  1. Very true. The damaging part is that the pickups are not the cash cow they once were. Sales are down and more signifacntly profit is hard to come by.
  2. But you have worked in the auto industry and actually understand it. That is quite an unfair advantage.
  3. And how many years ago could you have said the same thing about the Tacoma and the Ranger?

  5. You no nothing about house construction. Most Germans have no air conditioning and just cook when it gets warm. Even air conditioning in cars is only recently found in most vehicles. I promise to use no more energy than AL Gore. And I predict Ford sales down for March.
  6. I have stayed at hotels in Germany with no air conditioning. If you open the window the traffic noise is anoying and, so you just cook. Ever notice that all the German politicians drive big gas guzzling V8's at high speed and the peasants drive little cars.
  7. Now they want to force us to all become vegetarians. "PETA TO AL GORE: YOU CAN’T BE A MEAT-EATING ENVIRONMENTALIST Tue Mar 06 2007 17:08:05 ET The Most ‘Inconvenient Truth’: According to U.N., Animals Raised for Food Generate More Greenhouse Gases Than All Cars and Trucks Combined Norfolk, Va. — This morning, PETA sent a letter to former vice president Al Gore explaining to him that the best way to fight global warming is to go vegetarian and offering to cook him faux “fried chicken” as an introduction to meat-free meals. In its letter, PETA points out that Gore’s film, An Inconvenient Truth—which starkly outlines the potentially catastrophic effects of global warming and just won the Academy Award for “Best Documentary”—has failed to address the fact that the meat industry is the largest contributor to greenhouse-gas emissions. In the letter, PETA points out the following: · The effect that our meat addiction is having on the climate is truly staggering. In fact, in its recent report “Livestock’s Long Shadow—Environmental Issues and Options,” the United Nations determined that raising animals for food generates more greenhouse gases than all the cars and trucks in the world combined. · Researchers at the University of Chicago have determined that switching to a vegan diet is more effective in countering global warming than switching from a standard American car to a Toyota Prius. PETA also reminds Gore that his critics love to question whether he practices what he preaches and suggests that by going vegetarian, he could cut down on his contribution to global warming and silence his critics at the same time. “The single best thing that any of us can do to for our health, for animals, and for the environment is to go vegetarian,” says PETA President Ingrid E. Newkirk. “The best and easiest way for Mr. Gore to show his critics that he’s truly committed to fighting global warming is to kick his meat habit immediately.” "
  8. If you want to live like a poor communist why did you not stay in Europe? Read the constitution.
  9. Well my take on it is (based on Charleys posts) is that we are better then Circuit City because despite the fact we are losing thousands of jobs we will give you a bunch of money. The other way to look at it is Buzz Hargrove should start looking at changing the rules. First thing is if you are a slacker or troublemaker you are out the door. Most of the people know what they have and despise the problem people that are protected by the union. That is the number one problem with the union. They protect the people that don't do there job.
  10. When you are losing the argument based on scientific fact you resort to your French allies. The USA and Great Britain has lost what made them great. 15 soldiers captive because they where not allowed to defend themselves. Churchill said after the first allied victories it is not the beginning of the end but the end of the beginning. I guantee if Churchill or Washington were there they would not surrender without a fight. It is embarrasing for Britain that they would not let there soldiers defend themselves. The socialist in the USA want to see this as the end of the beginning of the greatest experiment and most unbielevable success the world has ever seen. King George and the royalty in Europe laughed at the thought that what they considerd rabble could run a country. Ben Franklin, Thomas Jefferson and the rest were geniuses. I blame it on the socialist forces in the USA, largely due to the the people like the Rosenburgs and others that think it is a terrible thing for the unwashed masses to enjoy freedom. The latest victory the left wants is to lose the war in Iraq. This will make them feel good but is a disaster for the country. I am sure STP is cheering for a loss in Iraq. The left continues to be embarased by the success of the capitist americans.
  11. This quote has always summed it up for me since I heard it back in the early 90’s. The set up: its turn of the century America and a young man barely more than a boy is speaking up to his cruel fat-cat boss/plant owner. “You can't treat the working man this way! One of these days we'll form a union, and get the fair and equitable treatment we deserve! Then we'll go too far, and become corrupt and shiftless, and the Japanese will eat us alive”! From The Simpson’s.
  12. Real Climate refutes "The Great Global Warming Swindle". This is the best STP's beloved Real Climate can muster? "Swindled! Filed under: Climate Science Paleoclimate Sun-earth connections Reporting on climate— group @ 5:36 pm By William and Gavin On Thursday March 8th, the UK TV Channel 4 aired a programme titled "The Great Global Warming Swindle". We were hoping for important revelations and final proof that we have all been hornswoggled by the climate Illuminati, but it just repeated the usual specious claims we hear all the time. We feel swindled. Indeed we are not the only ones: Carl Wunsch (who was a surprise addition to the cast) was apparently misled into thinking this was going to be a balanced look at the issues (the producers have a history of doing this), but who found himself put into a very different context indeed [update: a full letter from Wunsch appears as comment 109 on this post] So what did they have to say for themselves? CO2 doesn't match the temperature record over the 20th C. True but not relevant, because it isn't supposed to. The programme spent a long time agonising over what they presented as a sharp temperature fall for 4 decades from 1940 to 1980 (incidentally their graph looks rather odd and may have been carefully selected; on a more usual (and sourced!) plot the "4 decades of cooling" is rather less evident). They presented this as a major flaw in the theory, which is deeply deceptive, because as they and their interviewees must know, the 40-70 cooling type period is readily explained, in that the GCMs are quite happy to reproduce it, as largely caused by sulphate aerosols. See this for a wiki-pic, for example; or (all together now) the IPCC TAR SPM fig 4; or more up-to-date AR4 fig 4. So... they are lying to us by omission. What kind of explanation is that? CO2 is not supposed to match the temperature? The troposphere should warm faster than the sfc, say the models and basic theory. As indeed it does - unless you're wedded to the multiply-corrected Spencer+Christy version of the MSU series. Christy (naturally enough) features in this section, though he seems to have forgotten the US CCSP report, and the executive summary which he authored says Previously reported discrepancies between the amount of warming near the surface and higher in the atmosphere have been used to challenge the reliability of climate models and the reality of human induced global warming. Specifically, surface data showed substantial global-average warming, while early versions of satellite and radiosonde data showed little or no warming above the surface. This significant discrepancy no longer exists because errors in the satellite and radiosonde data have been identified and corrected. New data sets have also been developed that do not show such discrepancies. See-also previous RC posts. The data has been corrected to show what the GW Bolsheviks want the records to say. George Orwell, "who controls the past controls the future". Temperature leads CO2 by 800 years in the ice cores. Not quite as true as they said, but basically correct; however they misinterpret it. The way they said this you would have thought that T and CO2 are anti-correlated; but if you overlay the full 400/800 kyr of ice core record, you can't even see the lag because its so small. The correct interpretation of this is well known: that there is a T-CO2 feedback: see RC again for more. There is an 800year lag in the rise in temperature and the increase in CO2. If you make the scale big enough you can't see the lag so we will just choose to ignore it. That is science. More like comedy writing. All the previous parts of the programme were leading up to "so if it isn't CO2, what is it?" to which their answer is "solar". The section was curiously weak, and largely lead by pictures of people on beaches. It was somewhat surprising that they didn't feature Svensmark at all; other stuff we've commented on before. Note that the graph they used as "proof" of the excellent solar-T connection turns out to have some problems: see figure 1c of Damon and Laut. Rebuttal amounts to saying the solar section was week. More amazing info from the GW scientists. Along the way the programme ticked off most of the other obligatory skeptic talking points: even down to Medieval English vineyards and that old favourite, volcanoes emitting more CO2 than humans. It ended with politics, with a segment blaming the lack of African development on the environmental movement. We don't want to get into the politics, but should point out what the programme didn't: that Kyoto exempts developing nations." Not to mention the millions and millions of people in the developing world who have died due to the enviro whackos insistents that DDT not be used. http://www.realclimate.org/index.php/archi...07/03/swindled/
  13. The whole global warming thing is just another way push communism down our throats. The majority of the people in Canadas Liberal and NDP parties adore Castro. None of them went to Reagans funeral. When Castro dies they will need a large jet just for these lefties to attend the funeral. (personally I think Castro is already dead) Does that tell you something?
  14. It is not the threads that don't come out it is just the tip of the plug that remains in the head. The right antisieze might solve the problem. I would sure have them changed before the warranty is up.
  15. Here is the solution that Canada's version of Al Gore has. We will all live like the Cubans. Of course David Suzuki lives in a huge house overlooking the Pacifac Ocean and doubtless plans on living more like Castro than a common peasant. Need any more proof that this is communism? And the CBC steals a couple billion of taxpayers dollars every year to make up this drivel. "Without fertilizer and pesticides, Cubans turned to organic methods. Without fuel and machinery parts, Cubans turned to oxen. Without fuel to transport food, Cubans started to grow food in the cities where it is consumed. Urban gardens were established in vacant lots, school playgrounds, patios and back yards. As a result Cuba created the largest program in sustainable agriculture ever undertaken. By 1999 Cuba's agricultural production had recovered and in some cases reached historic levels." http://www.cbc.ca/natureofthings/show_cuba.html
  16. You need to see the design of the plug and the head. The plug has a tip about 3/4 inch long that protudes below the threads thru a tight fitting hole in the head into the combustion chamber. There is probably only a few thousands clearance around this tip and the head, but enough to allow carbon to build up and lock the tip in place.
  17. Exactly my point. Is Ford telling the truth? Look at the 3 valve engines with the sparkplugs sticking in the heads. Ford should come right out and tell the customers there is a problem and you should pull the sparkplugs before this turns into a disaster for the company. This is going to hurt FMC. The superduty is probably the superior chassis in the segment and they have a problem like this? For most customers the V10 is a better choice and arguably the best gas engine in the class. A question for those that know--why buy the diesel over the V10 if you don't often tow a heavy load? I don't see much savings after the increased maintenance costs and the higher price for diesel fuel.
  18. Can you imagine if that money was actually used for something constructive? Instead we have the chicken little syndrome, and billions down the drain.
  19. And you believe Ford is actually telling the truth? They might be and they might be trying to keep a turbo problem quiet.
  20. I was talking to a guy that repairs the ejected sparkplugs on the mod motors. He says it is fairly common. He is now seeing the problem with the 3 valve plugs sticking in the head. What actually happens is that most of the spark plug including the threads will come out when you remove the sparkplug. The 3 valve plug is very unusual design and has a long metal section(tip) at the end of the plug. This part is staying in the head. He says it is quite difficult to remove at that point. He had an engine at the dealer yesterday where all 8 plugs were like this. Charged $900.00 to remove all of them. The way to prevent this problem is to remove the plugs well before they are required to be replaced.
  21. GM already has 2 tier wages at their Dayton, Ohio plants.
  22. They have been trying to build a new V8 gas engine for years. What is the reason?
  23. Typical Liberal. Loses the argument on the evidence so they must resort to name calling. Very childish.
