  1. There are many tricks to make imported parts qualify as domestic. And the difference between an imported transmission and a domestic transmission could be 1% (69% versus 70%).
  2. Jailbroken or not it's still theft of services and that's illegal - period.
  3. But he's not saying "IF" they do more of the same - he's saying it WILL be more of the same so why bother. That's the stupid part. These things are totally new: New mgt team who successfully turned the Ford brand around in just a few years. Killed Mercury. Reduced number of Lincoln dealers. 7 planned vehicles - almost double the number of models in the recent past. 100% unique sheetmetal, greenhouse and interiors Dedicated team of 85 people including a lot of outsiders with luxury mfr experience Commitment to better dealership experience Unique features. This is why Lincoln has a very good chance to succeed at some level because they're doing things they've never done before. This is what the negatards don't get - or maybe they just don't want to get it.
  4. Not according to my buddy, who was a longtime Ford TRANSMISSION engineer.............
  5. They haven't lost anything. They got hoodwinked by BSQUARE and made a conscious decision to go ahead with the launch. This is not a systematic failure but a learning experience. You have to take more risks to be on the bleeding edge. It remains to be seen if this will hurt them. I don't think it will but we'll have to wait and see.
  6. BTW - what happened to FordBuyer? Is he writing for Jalopnik now?
  7. What an idiot. It's all based on what Ford has done with Lincoln in the past - not what they're planning to do.
  8. It's not underpowered - it's the software. There is a reason Apple won't allow Flash on their products.
  9. And all I can say is you don't know what Ford will be offering in another year or two. There is no evidence that Ford is permanently abandoning the market. It's possible, but I don't think it's likely. We just haven't seen the replacement yet and we may not for a year or two. It will require platform changes to either T6 or the F150 but I do think it's coming due to CAFE and other reasons. I keep saying this but nobody seems to believe me and I'm not sure why.
  10. Wow - 4 sales! Ford should open another plant to meet all that demand! If they were selling 10k-15K Rangers per month you can bet they'd be keeping it. But they aren't and the numbers don't lie. You can cite anecdotal evidence all you want but the sales numbers speak for themselves.
  11. Because building more requires more investment and that plus the additional rebates would quickly eat up the additional profit. That seems to be the GM tactic. Ford finally figured out that's not the best way to run a business.
  12. Make sure you get a copy of the DORA so you can verify what they actually order this time.
  13. Lincoln is a dead man walking. Didn't you get the memo?
  14. I agree - I think the crossovers stay D4 - it's a great platform for those but it sucks for cars. I think there will be at least two CD4 versions with different wheelbases - short for Fusion/MKZ and longer for Taurus/MKS. Not sure if they would move Edge/MKX to CD4 or leave them on CD3s.
  15. You're completely ignoring the COSTS to keep and update the Ranger. It's on a bespoke platform so there are no other vehicles to share the amortization of the platform upgrades to meet new regulations and consumer demands. It's built in a bespoke plant that builds no other vehicles. Ford made a new Ranger platform that can be used globally. The only problem is Ford NA opted out of the program early on (pre-Mulally) and it was too late to jump on the bandwagon when they decided to cancel the U.S. Ranger. It's simply a matter of timing. I don't believe for one minute that Ford would kill the Ranger just to protect F150 sales. I could believe that if they thought the profit they would make from a U.S. T6 ranger could be offset by increased F150 sales or that the profit would not overcome the investment costs, but we aren't privy to that financial detail. But I guarantee you if Ford thought they could make money by offering the T6 then we will see it at some point. Or they have a better plan for the F150 platform.
  16. Never heard of that happening with any type of air filter or cold air intake. The PCM limits engine revs so it doesn't matter how much air the throttle lets in. The only potential issue would be fouling the MAF sensor or throttle body with oil from the filter. They wouldn't cover that but the rest of the vehicle and engine would still be covered. And they would have to prove that the modification actually caused the problem in order to deny the claim.
  17. Why? They're selling almost all the vehicles they're currently producing with minimal incentives. July 4th is just another selling day (as is December 31st or the last day of each month).
  18. Ford makes the Focus in the U.S. Toyota shut down their U.S. Corolla plant. Ford sells between 500K and 1M F-series trucks per year - just in North America. None of the imports come anywhere close to that kind of volume. And if you don't think some of that "domestic content" in Toyotas and Hondas is smoke and mirrors you're dreaming. If you want to think that the only reason Ford dropped their domestic content percentage was to save a few bucks on parts then go ahead and believe that. But I'm telling you it's WAY more complicated than that.
  19. HVAC Radio Phone Navigation Each corner of the MFT screen represents those 4 functions, each with a different color. You'd have to replicate all those buttons for all those functions. It's not just a few buttons for hvac and a few for the radio any more.
  20. How many buttons would you need to replicate 4 different screens worth of adjustments? A lot. Or you'd need a lot of menu buttons and navigation which gets you back to the same problem. This is a lot neater. I have that in my 06 Fusion. Cruise on the left. On the right is Volume +/-. Seek +/-. Media (cycles through inputs) Temp +/- Remember with MFT you have automatic HVAC so the only adjustment is temp up and down. It's not crowded at all.
  21. Not stand-alone - that's why it needs to be built off either T6 or the F150 platform. I think a F100 based on the T6 platform with smaller F150 sheetmetal with an ecoboost 2.0L, NA 2.5L and NA 3.5L would work fine and keep costs down assuming they could build it in the U.S.. Once you have the platform in production and paid for then there would be a CHANCE for other vehicles like a Bronco, etc. (MAYBE). Or you downside the current F150 slightly and make a lighter F100 version. Don't forget in the 70's you had F-100s and F-150s that were identical in appearance (for the most part). I just don't see Ford walking away from the 1/4 ton pickup market altogether. They just don't have the right product for it yet.
  22. I still say we will see a smaller more fuel efficient pickup within the next 2 years. Whether it's a modified T6 or F-100 based on the F150 I don't know. But it's obvious the current Ranger platform is no longer needed and it needs to be killed now while the new one is still being designed.
  23. Well that's a given - the 6F50 was developed to handle higher torque (as was the 6F55). In Ford parlance the last 2 numbers denote the max torque capability at the tranny input shaft AFTER the torque converter. The TC can almost double torque at very low RPM so it's not just the engine output - you have to account for almost twice that. So a 6F35 can handle 350 lb/ft or roughly 175-200 lb/ft at the flywheel - maybe more depending on the torque converter. 6F50 will handle 500 lb/ft or up to about 300 at the flywheel. 6F55 will handle 550 lb/ft. Etc. Etc. Etc. But I'm almost positive the 6F50 would fit. I think it's a supply issue at Hermosillo since they already had the Aisin unit prior to the 2010 models. Oakville started with the 6F50. Either it was cheaper or more convenient or both for Hermosillo to continue with the Aisin unit. Maybe Ford has a contractual commitment to Aisin and this is how they're meeting it. Who knows.
