  1. OH please, STFU.

These super specialty devices are known for huge delays. The Mopar MyGIG option slowed down a LOT of Nitro orders. It is an option that not a lot of people will order, so they are made in such small quantities that they get bumped way down the build chain so Ford can crank out (and sell) more cars WITHOUT the option.

The Sync is half baked anyways. If Ford was smart they would adopt a module platform that allows you to plug in interoperable devices into a slot in the dash. That way 3rd parties could make devices like GPS, video players, etc, that fit in that slot.

The only thing you need in the dash is a bluetooth reciever for the phone and an AUX port for a music player. The interface is dumb and will be outdated eventually.

How is that better than a USB port in the center console?

  2. Wife put in a CD in slot 1 and received a "CD ERROR". So she tried to put a CD in slot 2 and received the same "CD Error". When she tried to eject the CD, the player made a loud robotic movement type of sound. This sound even continued after the car was turned off. Now the CD player makes loud noises and will not reject the CD. Just curious if any other MKX owners have had this issue? Also, prospective buyers will do themselves well by checking out the site http://www.carbuyingtips.com. Saved me around 2K.

It's just jammed - hardly a "meltdown". Are these factory CDs or homemade? With or without labels?

  3. Sparky,

14,000 that I owe on mine, plus .20 cents a mile that I have on my current vehicle (8,000 for the 40,000 on mine) so if I'm right in my thinking, I'll owe about 22,000 plus any difference in the MSRP??????.

Thank you all for the help,

    Pipefitter

That's correct. They'll pay off your old vehicle ($14K) plus the depreciation ($8K) plus the MSRP difference ($1430) = $23,430. You'll owe that much on a brand new $36K MSRP vehicle.

The bottom line is you end up paying $8K for the time that you drove the old vehicle and the rest is a wash. More or less. Sounds like a reasonable deal to me.

The fact that you paid A plan initially really doesn't matter at this point. Your old vehicle is worth the same amount now regardless.

  4. Well for another example, scroll up and see what people posted for the Murano:

    60-0: 124 feet

    70-0: 166 feet

So, by going 10 miles per hour faster (16% faster), you take 33% longer to brake.

This, boys and girls, is why speeding kills.

But the extra time (and therefore length) could be at the beginning of the brake cycle, not the end. I imagine it takes a lot longer to get the brakes to the point of lockup from 70 than 60. But I'm no physics expert so I won't debate it.

The brakes should be improved but it's not a deal breaker for me.

  5. Linear dissipation of kinetic energy, not of speed. Kinetic energy varies with the square of speed.

So that means it takes 125 ft to go from 60 to 22.2 and only 20 feet to go from 22.2 to 0? Just doesn't sound right. I'm sure it's not totally linear based on speed either but I bet it's close.

  6. Dealer Inventory finally lists one in San Diego county -- maybe I'll cruise up to Poway tomorrow and take some pictures :)

Be aware the website may show the vehicle in stock while it's still in transit. My Fusion showed up on the dealer inventory website at least a week before it actually arrived - more like 10 days.

  7. Again assuming that energy is dissipated linearly by the brakes, you'll be going 22.2MPH when you have 20 feet left, the difference in braking distance between an Edge and an Explorer or Murano.

If you assume the braking is linear, at 125 feet the Edge is 86% stopped (using 145 feet). 14% of 60 mph is 8.4 mph not 22.2.

  8. I'd like to know how the cruise control became active by itself. Is that another Lexus feature? Like self parking, if you maintain a steady speed for 30 seconds or more, CC becomes active. Also, why cant you turn the key off?

I think it's fair to say that everything in between "floor mat gets stuck" and the car stopping is due to 17 yr old girls panicking behind the wheel.

  9. I consider the real-world data to be exceptionally good.

But the real-world data only comes from CR subscribers and not from a truly random sample. One could also question whether CR subscribers are by definition somewhat biased themselves and others have issues with how the survey questions are constructed. I don't think it's a huge problem but it's something that should be noted when considering the survey results.

  10. back on topic, why can't ford make money on small cars?

what can ford do to solve this riddle

I still say that NO exsisting ford plant can make money on small cars.

We need a complete reevaluation of how we build cars.

IF needed a new plant, that allows us to leap ahead of the competition.

Because the competition builds small cars in huge quantities and sells them all over the world.

Ford builds the Focus for U.S. only. And because they try to compete on price instead of features they end up putting $3K in incentives to sell them. Now how much do they lose on each one? $3K? What a coincedence!

Let the Koreans and Chinese have the cheap end of the market. Use global engineering to cut development costs and give people the features and performance they want and they can at least break even on them. Get the new B car on the lots to slot below the Focus.

  11. I type slow, so pasting my reply to a similar thread over at Mustangforums

to me the sad thing is that Ford(the folks that designed, engineered, manufacured, marketed, advertised, and warranted the product) is not allowed to bend the dealers over like they do buyers for all their hard work(type some stuff into a computer) in simply ordering the car...if Ford/Shelby demand 25k extra, well then more power to THEM- but when a huge iconic corporation has their hands tied by stupid agreements where they cant get a slice of the pie they baked, and have to see dealers taking tenfold profits from their hard work, that will always bother me. What really sucks is the black eyes Ford gets for dealer behavior, when they cant control a thing they do. If Ford ADM'd the dealers up front, I would agree thats business, but the dealers would be having a total sh*tfit, and immediately, conveniently 'forget' all the 'supply and demand/economics 101' crap theyve been using to justify pissing away ford customers...I really feel strongly that if they ADM a new car, the profits should be split with Ford- Ford EARNED IT by designing such a over the top product- not being able to profit from that work is the 'new american' legalese typical way for the profit to be spread unevenly to folks that have little or nothing to do with the actual product/development risks that were taken to achieve a little package that makes a certain product worth 4 times its base price(and almost pure profit). actually I kinda wish Ford would just up the MSRP to 65k...at least then the bad press they get would have a little merit, but at least theyd make some extra and desperately needed profit...as to the dealers crying foul- I think they are begging for it from their behavior...but thats just my opinion.

Ford has complete control over the price they charge the dealers. They could charge them $40K for a Shelby GT500 if they wanted. Which would probably work fine for the first few units but when demand drops they wouldn't be able to get that much for them. This way the additional markup is dynamic and changes based on the market demand at the moment.

I do agree it would be nice for Ford to get some of the extra profits but it will never happen given the current franchise laws.

  12. If you're only driving 15K/yr then you're only getting a 5 yr/75K mile warranty. The powertrain is already covered for 5 yrs/60K miles so you're only getting 1 yr/15K miles of powertrain coverage with the ESP. And 2 yrs/39K miles on the bumper to bumper portion beyond the factory 3/36K. Do you really think it's likely that you'll have a problem in that short timeframe that cost more than $1600 to fix? Not likely. If you're planning to pay cash for the ESP just put the money in the bank and self-insure. You'll save money in the long run.

The only valid reason to get an ESP (IMO) is if you can't afford to pay up to $2K for a repair out of pocket and would rather finance the ESP and make small monthly payments instead. Otherwise, if you can afford to pay $1600 out of pocket for an ESP you can afford to pay for a large repair every once in a while.

  13. Point me to my local Ford Dealer that I may purchase it from...that is my point. Why are the other marketing channels getting the hot products and no option from Ford Division? Step up to the plate...you use to and hit home runs all the time. An idle bat never hits the ball.

    It's called the Taurus X.

  14. How would you anticipate a deer darting into the path of your vehicle or a car backing out of a driveway into your lane of travel (or any other "unforseen emergency")? Hard braking is not always the result of driver inattention or a driver following another vehicle too closely.

If a deer darts in front of you the extra 20' won't make any difference. Unless you're driving towards a cliff the only time it will make a difference is if you have more than 125 ft but less than 146 ft to stop and totally avoid a collision as opposed to having a minor fender bender.

You people act like it's life or death. It's not.

  15. Quest? Best quality minivan? Something is flawed in this study. :hysterical:

The Total Quality Index™ is the premier measure of new vehicle owner satisfaction. It asks buyers to rate all aspects of the ownership experience, from buying and owning to driving.

How they can do an owner satisfaction survey and call it Total Quality is beyond me.

  16. yes as long as Ford does not abandon it like they do everything else! But they will and when sales decline, they'll let it go instead of tweaking it like the Japs do. Sad.

    06 Fusion/Milan - 07 AWD, 09 refresh including a hybrid

    05 500 - 08 Taurus new drivetrain, exterior/interior upgrades

06 Zephyr - 07 MKZ new drivetrain, AWD, exterior tweaks, 09 refresh

The days of launch and abandon are over although all vehicles might not be on a 3 yr cycle.
