  1. Give me the biggest gas sucking, highest horsepower engine Ford can squeeze can squeeze between the fenders. Forget these small block V8's. Give me a 428 cubic inch engine with 700 horsepower. I would also like more frontal area on the front of the vehicle so I can take out more spotted owls and toyotas. I would also like to see the weight of the vehicle raised up to about 8,000 pounds. By the way, if you can put a supercharger on it or twin turbos that would be a plus if it will up the horsepower to around 1,000. How about dual rear wheels and full time all wheel drive? 300 horsepower was ok a few years ago but it's a little lacking these days. ;-)
  2. I have the Weathertech mats. I'm assuming they are the digital fit because they fit every contour and curve of the floor perfectly. They are very overpriced in my opinion but fit well and are fairly durable. I've had mine about 2.5 years and they still look good. Every now and then they need to be scrubbed with a brush but have held up well against gas, oil and even dog puke! They are easy to scratch but the scratches aren't too noticeable. I got a full set... front seat, back seat and rear shelf (area where third row seat folds down) for around $350. Again they are overpriced but the reason is because there is no real competition for Weathertech. By the way the mats are U.S. Made! I highly recommend these mats.
  3. Any word on the 2011 Expedition? Will it be the same body style as the 2007-2010 or will it change? How about engines? I read a couple different places that the new 400 horsepower Coyote 5.0 liter engine that is going in the 2011 Mustang may also go in the F150. I'm wondering if the Expedition might get this engine or even the 6.2 liter engine that has been rumored. Anybody know anything?
  4. Just a suggestion... I grew up thinking a Volvo was best represented by a Volvo 240. When I think of Volvos, I think of safety. Weren't they the first to come up with seat belts or shoulder harnesses? Volvo has gotten away from what it is supposed to be known for... Safety! Sure they have airbags, traction control, stability control but so do so many other cars. Heck they even have that new collision avoidance radar which has been out a while. Volvo should be a leader/innovator that sets the pace that all others follow. Come up with revolutionary new ideas for safety instead of riding on the coat tails of others. Why would I buy a Volvo when I can buy a new Taurus which probably has the same safety features and cost thousands less? By the way, I rode in a Volvo S40 or S60 a while back and other than having very comfortable seats, it seemed like a rough riding, glorified econobox. Yes the old 240's were boxy but were quality machines. I don't claim to be any kind of marketing genius but why not go back to basics? Just an idea for you FORD and it didn't even cost you a dime. A FORD Owner
  5. Does anyone know if a new V8 engine for the 2010 Ford Expedition is in the works? I had heard rumors of a 425 horsepower 6.2 liter V8 based on I'm assuming the engine in the F-150 SVT Raptor.
  6. The higher fuel goes... The more people that switch to econo-boxes. That makes me just that much safer in my 6,000 pound gas guzzler. That's right... I'm gonna burn as much fuel, consume as many resources and create as many green house gases as I can... and after that... I'm gonna eat me a nice, thick, juicy, spotted owl burger.
  7. Two things... The Navigator with the light colored interior and the light wood is the finest looking interior I have ever seen in any vehicle from any decade. I wouldn't change a thing. The MKZ also has a darn nice interior. Secondly, Tahoes, Suburbans etc. are built not too far from where I live. I looked closely at them but the Expedition was just a better vehicle in every way. I especially like that all safety features are standard on all trim levels of the Expedition. A side note... I bought the Expedition over the F-150 because it had a ton more safety features than the F-150 did. You can't even get side airbags on a F-150 but evidently that's getting ready to change. By the way I was also able to get 25.88 mpg out of my Expedition the other day. See details here: http://www.blueovalforums.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=21301 What's not to like?
  8. Did somebody say Toyota Prius? I just love the sound a Prius makes as it passes under the rear wheel of my Expedition.
  9. The trip was from north Dallas to Austin. Texas. My mileage meter read something like 26.7 when I got to Austin but I didn't have the time to fill up and hand calculate the mileage. On the way back I stopped around Waco and filled up and then drove back north of Dallas which was about which is about 125 miles. When I stopped to fill up (after a few miles of city driving) the mileage meter read around 26.1 if I remember correctly and my mileage hand calculated showed 25.88mpg. Next time I go on a road trip hopefully it will be longer. I'm wondering if I could possibly get 27mpg. That's pretty doggone good mileage for a 6000 pound vehicle although a 2002 Dodge diesel I had (7200 pounds) with a six speed stick once got a hair over 27. That was really babying it though. More typical was 25 straight highway. It never ever got less than 20 except when I hooked a 5000 pound trailer onto it once and the mileage dropped to 18. I would love a diesel Expedition with a six speed stick. I wanted the 17 inch wheels too but took what came with the vehicle. One more thing.... The girlfriend has a Nissan Versa which I call "The Lunch Box" (Remember those metal lunch boxes from years ago?) gets 33 mpg highway she says. She says it has a four star front crash rating which is probably fine unless you have a head on collision with a butterfly...
  10. I would say that is outstanding fuel mileage under those conditions and at that speed.
  11. Well I went on my first road trip the other day and got 25.88 MPG! Here are the particulars. I had the cruise set on 59 MPH, had 300 pounds worth of passengers and 100 pounds of gear. This was all highway with the exception of about five miles which was city driving. The vehicle is a 2008, 2wd, XLT, regular length with the 3:31 rear gear (No towing package) and 18" tires. According to the "Cat Scale" I put it on the other day, the vehicle weighed right at 6,000 pounds with me in it and a full tank of gas. (That's with no gear). My Expedition uses quite a bit more fuel in the city which of course is no surprise. It takes a lot of energy to get that 6,000 pounds moving. Also my MPG gauge seems to be fairly accurate. I think it read 26.1mpg when I filled up with fuel and my hand calculations showed 25.88mpg. The original leg of the trip showed 26.7 so I am certain I could get 26mpg out of it without much problem. I know that 59 mph is not 75 mph but you can't have your cake and eat it too. I forget the RPM reading at that speed but it is pretty low... something like 1600 RPM but don't quote me on this... As they say... You're mileage may vary.....
  12. "Bucky - You got a lemon. Honda makes a fine product... And to say a vehicle in it's same class / price range from Ford, Chrysler or GM is a "better vehicle" would be a hard pill to swallow." To any of those who are wondering... I just purchased a 2008 Expedition and paid exactly $399 more for it than my Honda Pilot that I drove for 19 months and can hardly wait to get rid of. I have crawled all over and under the Pilot and the Expedition and can say without a doubt that the Expedition is built better and uses higher quality materials. Now to be fair I have only had the Expedition a month so time will tell how well the Expedition holds up. The things I can comment on so far is that the Expedition has a better ride, a quieter cabin, better quality materials, more heavy duty, will tow a trailer and get ready for this... GETS BETTER FUEL MILEAGE! Yep... Leave it to those poor, ignorant, American car makers to build a three ton vehicle with a 300 horsepower V8 that will get better fuel mileage than a front wheel drive, six cylinder, unibody Honda.
  13. I ended up getting the useless third row seat because you end up getting it back when you sell your Expedition. An expedition without a third row seat takes a big hit on resale value when you go to sell it. Yep... For just me and the mutt it's a waste. One more thing... $875 for a third row seat? I didn't pay much more than that for a leather couch in my den.
  14. BEWARE OF CARFAX!!! Just because it says it hasn't been in a wreck... doesn't mean it hasn't. I drove a loooong way the other day to look at a used 2007 Expedition. Well after close inspection on a lift I could see that it had been in a MAJOR collision. Carfax had reported that all was well. I sent them a letter asking for a refund for the carfax and have yet to hear back from them. At any rate I ended up buying a new 2008 instead. Buyer Beware!
  15. I am getting ready to order a 2008 Expedition XLT. I am ordering it without the third row seat. It's just me and the mutt so I really don't need it especially for $875. Here's the question.... When the third row seat folds down, it goes into it's own little cubby hole (actually a large cubby hole) and causes the floor above it to be flat. If I don't get the third row seat, is this space available for storage say with a removable cover like the one over the spare tire jack? Has anybody ever seen a new Expedition without the third row seat? Any and all comments welcomed. Thanks.
  16. I am considering buying a new Expedition and want opinions on the load leveling suspension. Details about this system are hard to find. In some places I find it says four corner load leveling and other places say rear load leveling. I am interested in the air suspension primarily for ride quality. Can anybody chime in and tell me if the air suspension delivers a better ride than the standard coil spring setup or does it just keep the rear end level? Additionally... Can you hear an air compressor running and how often does it run and for how long. Does the vehicle raise or lower when starting or turning off the vehicle? Does the vehicle lower/settle after setting unused for a day or so. Sorry about all the questions but I haven't been able to find any answers. Any help will be appreciated.
  17. There is a new Police Expedition down the road from me and it looks like it has just the regular bucket seats in it minus the center console and floor shifter.
  18. I like the look (size and chrome both) of the 20 inch wheels. I suspect that 17 inch wheels will give a softer ride which suits me just fine. Another thing people fail to consider... Go price a set of 20 inch tires as opposed to 17 inch tires. The difference will pay my car insurance for a year and quite a bit of fuel to boot.
  19. I noticed that too the other day at the dealer but can't find an explanation anywhere.
  20. I believe the tow package also ups the rear gear from around 3:31 to 3:73. This may allow you to take off faster and will most likely effect your fuel mileage at highway speeds. It may also increase engine noise at highway speeds since the engine is turning a higher rpm than the 3:31 rearend vehicle. The tow package is a bargain though. The higher capacity radiator and transmission cooler are helpful. The trans cooler will probably even extend the life of your transmission...towing or not. Hope this helps.
  21. I came across this and thought it might be of interest. 0704_ford_exped_ts.pdf
  22. Long ago... In a galaxy far, far away.... They used to sell something like a large, white, waxy type of crayon to go over the white letter. It was typically applied to your big boss 60 tires on your car that was jacked up in the back... Like I said... Long ago... I bet you can still buy them at the corner parts store. If memory serves me, it worked pretty well. Hope this helps.
  23. EL Lover... What ever you do... Don't buy a Honda... I bought a Honda Pilot which just turned two years old. It is the biggest piece of garbage I have ever owned. Constant problems too numerous to mention here... and now the warranty is almost up (3000 more miles) and now the transmission sometimes does "funny things". Can you believe I was originally going to buy an Expedition but bought into the whole "Honda Quality" lie. I'm waiting for a bigger rebate on the Expedition and then I'm going to buy an Expedition as I should have in the first place. What a cheap piece of junk this Honda is. One more thing EL Lover... Don't expect anything Honda sells to be able to do what your F150 does. Honda does not make a truck... only passenger cars that might vaguely resemble a truck. You've been warned!
  24. There was a post a while back on fuel mileage. Now that a lot of these Expeditions are now broken in let's see what your fuel mileage is now like. Please post your fuel mileage for your "L" or "EL" and describe if your driving is 50/50 highway/city 90/10 etc. It might also be helful if you list your rear gear ratio (4x4's and towing packages have 3:73 gears the rest I believe are 3:31). It also might be good to describe your driving style: "Bat Out of He**", "Grandpa goin' for a Sunday drive" or somewhere in between. You might even want to post your best and worst mileage. So what's your fuel mileage?
