  1. Well, nobody else brought it up so I thought I would, couple of soldiers run over and one died, and then yesterday another soldier shot and killed at the war memorial in Ottawa. Wackjobs running through parliment shooting off a full mag (30 rounds) When the cops stopped the guy that ran over the two, he jumped out with a knife and the cops shot and killed him, here on the radio the bleeding heart left wing wacko's were crying asking why did the cops have to kill him, why didn't they shoot him in the leg, how come cops carry so many bullets...I couldn't believe my ears. IDIOTS!!! Already hearing "it's Harper fault because he said we were against isis"....WHAT??? So we SHOULDN'T be against a group who is slaughtering innocent men/women and children??? Our only "crime" is saying we are against murderers?? And WE'RE wrong?? WTF is wrong with people?? I'm waiting now for the typical antigun nuts to say that long guns should be taken away because one of the weapons used was a shotgun. If everybody carried a gun, these idiots wouldn't had a chance to kill because somebody would of tagged them. "Hmm...a guy walking around outside of parliment with a rifle and a facemask...two to the centre of mass" DONE! Freaking cowards, how can other muslims not be embarassed by cowards killing like this? But there I go, western thinking..of course it doesn't bother them, they see it as normal over there. Yeah I'm pissed
  2. Actually I listened to a 20min talk from a guy from Alberta, he was saying that saudi was happy when oil jumped from 20 to$28 and was satified there. (15 years ago or so) At the time it was too low to bother digging in the oil sands so they didn't. It would have to be at least 60-80 per barrel to make it profitable. Now as ima said, saudi wants to drop the price because of the glut to keep market share as they're worried about russia's oil and china is gearing up an oil infrastructure. But, algeres and others in opec want to keep prices up as they are used to living in that standard. So, opec is internally bickering, the US is drilling and is awash in oil, russia is selling to anybody/everybody, china is gearing up for an oil economy....and the tree huggers are screaming and the naysayers are screaming peak oil...LOL! Obama's having a real hard time destroying America now..
  3. Anybody notice the price of oil lately? Drill baby drill wasn't as stupid as the dems would like you to believe...
  4. Oh...and I'd love to see a rwd lincoln or anything else from ford rwd for that matter....there, back on topic! Fwd sucks, period. Weight over the drive wheels makes a vehicle good in snow (fwd or rwd). It's not having your steering tires pull you, like the sheeple would like you to believe.
  5. I'm on dilaudin right now cause I seperated my shoulder two weekends ago at the track. Far as I can see, it takes the edge off the pain but other than that I don't see it doing anything. I was on morphine once, that stuff is pretty cool. Everything was calm, if the house caught fire it would be "well...I guess we better leave then..." MAX relax! I could see why people would like it, but I can't see how people get hooked on stuff as it's stupid to keep taking it...but never been hooked on anything I guess I can't make an informed guess.
  6. Actually it's "in the midst" not "mist"...but I digress. I took alergy shots for about 5 years until it got to the point I was good for three weeks then get the monthly shot and be stuffed up for a week. Was off for 4-5 years then the doc got me on it again...4-5 years later, same thing. I've been off this last time about 2 years. I figure I'm backwards as normally hot dusty day and my allergies should be flaring up but I'm ok, starts raining and my nose starts running. Everybody says it doesn't work that way, I say "tell my nose!" Also, walk in a room of diesel smoke or cig smoke and while annoying, I'm fine. Somebody starts a diesel at the other end of the shop though? My nose runs! Same as a cig, I sneeze if I drive behind a car that the driver is smoking and has the window open. go figure! When I was a kid I grew up on a farm and being the youngest/smallest, I had to go in the hay loft to stack bales. Between sweat, snot and tears I was soaked, really disgusting but it was a different time. "stop your bellyaching and get back up the elevator"! LOL!
  7. Oh, and since nothing is true here without a link... http://www.forces.gc.ca/en/caf-community-pay/reg-force-ncm-class-c-rates.page Plus add my PLD (post living differential of $600 a month) Plus I seem to keep having field excursions/TD (temporary duty) and yeah, I made $78,000 last year. Yes I started out as a private making $540 a month I believe it was in '84 and yet somehow...I got promoted and saved and.....your just plain wrong phil, face it.
  8. You know phil, your wrong and I'm proof. I'm in the Army, who joins the army to become rich? I certainly didn't. But I invested, spent wisely and now I am VERY well off compared to many others. Last year I made $78,000 and I can list the number of "things" I own. If I wanted to become rich I would of started my own business or became a doctor/lawyer/etc. I joined out of patriotism, as did my father and grandfather. I go to the PMQ's and see new cars/trucks/seadoo's etc and I laugh. I've owned 9 houses due to postings and can't imagine pissing my money away a lot do living in PMQ's. They will not be rich when they retire, heck what do you call rich? I'm not rich compared to some, but I'm super rich if you compare me to others. I'm driving a 2013 fully loaded edge and the wife is driving a 2013 focus (or escort/titanium/whatever that is in the driveway as she calls it LOL) I also know of a teacher who retired, is living in B.C. now, has 400 acres and lives off the grid. She has a new Ford truck and a focus as well, the teachers pension pays the taxes and her cattle pays for everything else. She's "rich" if you want to look at her quality of life...even though she was a teacher. She saved her whole career and bought the farm when she retired. So, your wrong, it's not the job, it's not the "life handed me lemons", or any other "poor me" story. I think akirby said it best; " You're just jealous that other people have more than you and you feel guilty about people that have less than you." The entitlement era, where everybody feels that they should have as much as everybody else...just because.
  9. Kid qualified #1, went a few rounds and got enough points to get into the team race. (where the top 3 cars in each class from each of the 4 local tracks square off) And coming to work this morning I'm thinking...WTF am I doing coming here....I should be home servicing the dragster for next weekend...
  10. Trd, the only thing missing is you! LOL! 999...seriously? I don't like it, but I can see the punks with the hats on backwards and pants falling down saying "yo, yo, yo, I gots me a 999 biatch"! I see why they would do it though, world wide you need something that everybody can say or relate to. Remember chev couldn't figure out why nova's wouldn't sell in mexico, then somebody told them in spanish it means "no go". The downside when you make everything so sanitized and politically correct that you don't offend anyone, it also doesn't mean anything. They could just as easy use 444 or 789 but then they'd find out that's the sign of the devil in china or whatever. Make it "ah so" and the chinese love it, but the germans think your saying arsehole....can't win.. Instead of letters, make it a symbol. Or a cartoon...I'm serious, Ford just put an ad in National Dragster thanking all the ford racers for winning their classes and at the bottom of the ad was a cartoon depiction of a drivetrain with tires smoking...almost exact reproduction of the one from the 60's muscle parts program. Check it out here and note they thanked the new cobrajet owners, but also the older racers too like Marty Buth and Ray Paquet. http://classracer.com/classforum/showthread.php?t=54959 Imagine a mustang or focus with a cartoon (drivetrain or whatever) badge on the side of the car. Kind of like the roadrunner and stuff mopar did...better than 999 or calling it the "barney" model....
  11. Akirby, some people just can't accept others getting more pay, for ANY reason. Why are sports guys paid so much? BECAUSE PEOPLE WILL PAY THE HIGH TICKET PRICES! If one guy gets 50 million that means ticket prices have to be $500 for example, if nobody buys them at that price, the team can't afford 50 million dollar players. If they get them for 5 million and ticket prices are 50 bucks and the place is continually packed, maybe they can charge more/get somebody worth 10 million. Some just can't accept one person getting 5 million or 50 million "when there are poor out there starving". Your post was dead on.
  12. Yes, but you can't SAY that because it means your "mean" or "uncaring" or....No, it's much better to ignore the gorilla in the room and blame the dog for eating all the food. That way, the the gorilla doesn't feel bad about itself and the dog, well everybody blames everything on the dog so one more thing won't matter. Yeah I know it stopped those burglers, and it alerted everyone when there was that fire...but the gorilla, I mean, gee you gotta feel bad because it's a gorrilla right? Oh wait, now I'm comparing the poor to a gorilla...ooh, bad me.
  13. It's a life changing moment when you come to that point in your life where you accept that "this is it, it's what I'm paid for" and carry on with your orders. "Even worse, Penney said, was the fear that bailing out too early would mean missing her target." and THAT is the greatest fear at that point, commiting the ultimate sacrifice but it turning out not to matter. Unfortunately incidents happen a lot more than the public knows.
  14. While I agree with all of it, and they didn't even go deep into the cell phone users etc, I question the timing or ulterior motive behind a study like this. I can't help but think everytime I see "study" or "report" on how bad personal driving is and how much safer we would be with self-driving cars and public transit that there is something coming to limit our personal driving freedoms. In other words, seems like all manufacturers are showcasing these "self driving cars" and I can't help but think they are setting the stage for the near future so the sheeple will buy into it when they release them to the public. An example is the fwd car. Manufacturers started pushing how great fwd was and their proof was "driving in snow". The truth was/is, weight over the DRIVING wheels is what matters and in fact pulling a car is worse than pushing it. Proof of that is any fwd car that can't make it up a hill due to snow/ice/mud turn around and all of a sudden it can back up the hill! The point they avoided was it drastically cut manufacturing costs. The vw beetle was awesome in the snow as was skoda and a few other rear engine rwd cars, not because they were rwd, but because the drive wheels had the weight of the drivetrain over them. But...the public bought into it and will argue with anecdotal evidence "I had a whatever and it would go anywhere and it was fwd, therefore all fwd is the best". There are a lot of scary drivers out there, whether one handed or eating or sneezing, you just have to drive more defensively to avoid the idiots.
  15. Exactly, prime example; The beer industry paid millions to block "micro breweries" from forming. They fought with lobbyists etc. They eventually lost but their main point was that they had a monopoly of a select few major breweries and didn't know what would happen if "anybody" got into the business. They(the lobbyists) got the government to add various "rules and regulations" which effectively made it impossible to start up a brewery unless the amount of output was so great it would take several million dollars just to get up and running. This was all squashed, the micro brewery industry took off and the rest is history as they say. Currently, the spirit industry is in the same boat as the beer industry was. Here is the breakdown and how they do it. Annual permit for brewing beer at a macro brewery $1000, Micro $500 Annual permit for brewing wine at a macro vineyard, $1000, micro $500 Annual permit for distilling at a macro distillery, $1000, micro $1000 So far the battle is to get "micro" recognised in the spirit world so the government will reduce the fee's. So, what does this mean? Well, to pay this $1000 each year you will have to sell 48,000 bottles of whiskey.(36,000L for example) But to sell 48,000 bottles of whiskey you must brew and distill 4000 a month...which means 1000 per week...and since to distill 1000 bottles means 2-2500 bottles of wash (2000L) you must have fermenting tanks, etc quite beyond what would be considered "micro". So, without having a seperate price for macro and micro breweries, you effectively blocked any possibility of a micro starting up. And who would have lobbyists fighting against changing this? The big distilleries of course! More rules and regulation, less competition, the "big evil empires" go on. Ah...not quite, the rules are slowly being changed because the governments are recognising the revenue stream that is generated by a new industry. The rules are there which are effectively blocking new jobs/etc, but the opportunity is still there.
  16. Communism...it's here.... So, the basic premise is, that the government should provide jobs and if it can't, it should give those who aren't working enough to live on....where again does this money come from? Oh right, the government..but wait, where does the government get their money from? The answer of the uninformed is "well, the government makes the money to give to us". Those who work and pay taxes know it's the people who work in private corporation and company's that provide thetax money for the government to redistribute as it sees fit. So back to the original point, the government is responsible to provide for the citizens of the country. (cough, cough, nanny state, cough) And what exactly is unemployment and welfare supposed to do? Are they not to provide for a person who loses a job or in the latter case, cannot work for whatever reason? What possible reason should the government provide everything to a healthy person? Do we all forget how vast amounts of people came to North America "with a $1.00 in their pocket" as they say? The first line "The politics of a guaranteed income get a lot easier when you acknowledge that the U.S. is no longer the land of opportunity" is called setting the stage for the debate in your own favour. It's the "playing field" that only can have one correct answer which favours the person setting it up. It's like asking what is the best car in the world, a Fusion or a Focus? It sets the field that no other make can be introduced and therefore the eventual answer HAS to be one of the two Fords. Well, I call bullshit and say the US is still the land of opportunity. Even if there are so many more regulations and loopholes added to generate more revenue to support the ones who have no desire to make use of the opportunity afforded them. Bill Gates couldn't start the way he did in his garage due to increased regulations/rules etc, HOWEVER, don't confuse that with lack of opportunity. Now you have to adapt to the new regulations and increased taxation.
  17. After eating everything on your plate, cause that's all there was until breakfast. LOL! Speaking of which, saw a '62 Thermodyne on the road the other day set up with a 5th wheel, beautifully restored. Thought, that's what I need...another project! LOL!
  18. I'm not even sure how to answer that...either (1), say you need a tinfoil hat or...actually, I just realised, your in Ontario..the ones who just re-elected the most corrupt government possible. (possibly even worse than the ndp gov you had) That explains a whole lot about your mindset on how everybody rich must be either (a) evil, (b) corrupt, © immoral, or (d) all of the above. No way in heck could somebody get ahead in life unless they are doing something immoral/illegal. Thanks for clarifying that. Ontario is Canada's version of Illinois, corruption and scandle but, meh, what's a few Billion (with a B) between cronies, might as well re-elect them. After all the competition wanted to cut due to the bloated deficit and debt....crazy talk right? Good old unions to the rescue though, WOOHOO, LETS GO GRAVYTRAIN, FOUR MORE YEARS, YAY!!! "the government of the rich old white fascists", "Koch Brothers and their hyenas consider you a "useful idiot", "Military-Industrial Complex" "protect foreign oil " "non-1%" Occupy much? LOL! I think you missed one of their rehashed slogans but I guess that's ok, we get the gist of your anger.
  19. If you want to read the CIA report, first you have to sign it! LOL!!!!
  20. LOL! Hermans I guess the point to all of this is...those who are "workers" or have a work ethic can't get it out of their system even if they want to. I see a lot of 3rd generation welfare that seem to lay around all day just fine! LOL!
  21. Akirby, thanks Xr7, you know, I guess it's only natural the hungrier you are the the more you fight for something. I really like the idea of a micro-distillery and have many contacts that could help make it happen. (even the wife pushes me," just pull the pin and get out, you don't need the stress, you could be making whiskey all day instead of babysitting 50 grown children"). After seeing several winery's open up locally the biggest thing I figured out was marketing is more important that quality. I saw the first ad a new winery put out the other day, they opened June 23rd, the ad said "taste the history and blah, blah, blah!" The date 1877 wrote everywhere...because the barn on the property they redid was built in 1877. Made it appear it's been around forever...NOT! That kind of soured me as I'm not into chrome or shiny/pretty/etc, I'm more function-over-form and I'm thinking if the braindead public are only interested in shiny...I could be in trouble.
  22. Phil, start your own thread if you want, don't derail mine into yet another political fight please.
  23. XR7, an American buddy of mine had 4 company's and about 300 employees. I'm not going to turn this political but directly due to obama he sold/closed it all (he was 61) moved with his Chinese wife (girlfriend at the time) to China and "retired". He's heavy into home distilling and found his new relatives were into manufacturing. What started out as a need for a $10 tri-clover clamp, he found he couldn't get one made there or imported from the US, but if he wanted 3000 made.... Long story short, in the last 3-4 years he's found a lot of other distilling equipment he can get manufactured to his spec's (and quality control) and so much for retirement, he's the owner of a distillation equipment company called StillDragon. http://stilldragon.com/ Now, he has distribution in NA, Aus and now Eu. He said (his quote) "China is the new capitalist country with more freedoms than the US. Think of how the US was many years ago" Phil, your first post was good, I thought, good for you, hope you are enjoying yourself. The second post...why indeed....
  24. Excellent post Bob, thanks. While we've been jamming the rrsp's and stuff away for many years and probably could get by on that and my pension, I do still have kids that will need to finish their education. I'm 49 so nothing is "critical" but I'm making a plan as I do have a million projects that seem to eat up all my off duty time. I estimate I could work on projects for at least 8-10 months before needing to look for anything new. And there is a constant flow of guys I'm turning away for various jobs, so really, yeah I'd be just as busy if not more. (can't delegate work when you work alone)! Coming back after being away on a tour was always a hassle, getting back into the family thing. Kids really try to play parents off each other and being gone a year or so you want to spend time and "be a buddy" when you get back which makes the wife mad as she has to be the "bad guy". However, after many tours, it's become more "oh, your back..good, do the dishes"...wait...what? LOL! Just the two of us really enjoy our private time together now as the kids are old enough to not need constant supervision/direction/attention. Besides, she'd probably see less of me if I was allowed to spend all my time in the garage because it was my "job" hehehe. I can't think of anybody who retired and then said "meh, maybe I should of kept working" Maybe I don't know enough retiree's? At this point we're crunching the numbers and making plans...thanks for the insight.
  25. Jon Kasse is making massive hp and tq with the Boss heads he designed/built/offer for sale. Imagine if Ford made a twin cam, direct inj one at say 545 CU IN or so...even 521 or 514 is easy to do. Leave it at 8-9:1 comp for the lugging without detonation and it would have CRAZY numbers at diesel rpm's. We had a few 8.1 GM's in cut away cube vans here, they'd roast the dually's at will, but nosed over around 38-4000rpm. Full throttle would roast the tires, taper off then bark into 2nd and then quickly taper off again, bang into 3rd then taper off and felt "all done" around 110kph at 4000rpm. Wicked weight transfer when you hammered it LOL! umm...I heard..yeah that's it, I heard that...
