Whoever designed the European Kuga/Escape platform should be drawn and quartered.  Had to change a simple low beam xenon bulb on the passenger side of daughter’s 2014 escape titanium.  You can see the bulb through a 3.5” hole but it’s held on with 2 tiny torx screws and the hole faces the firewall.  Impossible for me to see to get the screws out although a couple of folks on YouTube claim to have done it.

No problem I’ll just pop out the headlamp.  Except ONE of the 3 headlamp bolts are behind the bumper cover and inaccessible.  So you have to remove the entire bumper cover.  Which requires removing wheel moldings, moving tires back and forth, removing underbody panels and front engine covers.  Plus 3 bolts on each side that are almost impossible to get to without removing the tire and wheel well liner.

This requires removing about 60 screws and about 20 plastic rivets.  Took me 4 hours and I only removed one side of the cover and was able to pull it back far enough to get that one bolt out.  Absolutely ridiculous design.

That's interesting, since my daughters 2018 Escape has the 3-1/2" rubber grommets to remove, but no screws holding the bulbs in, just the typical twistlock lamp base.  Still a PITA, but not a 4-hour job.

Maybe boring vehicles are OK to non-car-guys?

Hypothetically, how would a more-basic lower-cost Maverick sell, even if priced with equal margin?  Toyota, for example, has a base RAV4 or Camry with 2.5L NA FWD powertrain.  They offer AWD and hybrids (like Maverick), but also offer an even lower-cost base trim..  What would happen if Ford offered an even lower cost boring Maverick (holding profitability constant)?

Huh? The base Maverick XL w/the 2.0EB already has a nearly $5K MSRP price advantage over your base trim RAV4 example.  How much lower do you think Maverick needs to be?

I just received 6 cancelled 2023Maverick orders, several of which transitioned from 2022...Ill circle back with responses regarding tolerance of waiting times....ironically all bar one were base xl hybrids...

Possibly ordered with little to no deposit, by people anticipating flipping them for big bucks?  My traded-in '23 XLT is still sitting on my dealers lot. They started with $8K over my trade-in value, have dropped down to $5K over (still over the original MSRP window sticker).

The joys of electric vehicle ownership. People have enough problems with ICEs  parked out in the open in the freezing cold. I wonder how many folks with BEVs will have a change of heart if they get bit by a dead car because of the cold weather…..

As akirby has often said, there must be an awful lot of folks with BEV's that don't have the ability to charge at home, and rely on charging stations when needed.

I’ve thought of adding simple low-cost solar/battery/inverter system as a backup when we have power failures, but with limited capacity to power fridge, lights, coffee maker and microwave.  Basically the same type of system normally installed on an RV, and with only goal of eliminating need for a portable generator.  For major power generation and storage, I’ll let the power company do it professionally in volume.  Cost savings alone doesn’t interest me enough.  Besides, I would guess commercial solar and storage must be cheaper in the long run.

IMO, most power outages don't occur on bright sunny days, so the solar aspect probably won't add to your power generation equation when you need to start depleting the battery bank.

It’s also too short to haul a sheet of plywood with rear doors closed (common measure of practicality).

With 48.03" between the wheelwells, and 70.9" of floor length, I could easily bring 4x8 sheet goods home, as long as the rear doors don't block the opening.  No different than my Maverick with the sheets over-hanging the tailgate.

I placed my order for a FHEV White Platinum Black Label Nautilus on 12/26.  I received a confirmation email from Lincoln within 5 minutes.  Now, the wait begins. Hope and pray it isn't as long as the first year Maverick that ended up getting canceled by Ford.

My guess is that your BL Nauti isn't $19,995  , so a lot fewer people in line trying to buy one,,,,,

40 is not the same as 20.  It took 40 different models to sell 2.6M whereas Ford sold 2M with half as many models.  Even if models are just rebadges there is added overhead costs.

Well heck, using that kind of logic you could eliminate the entire Lincoln brand, and lose less than 82K units, minus those that would buy the Ford version.

Holy crap -  40 different models (combining MD and HD Silvererras)?

So what? I'm counting 19 different models between Ford & Lincoln, roughly the same as the 40 spread across 4 different nameplates by GM.

BTW I learned a trick about 20 years ago to help visualize the actual cost of trading in on a newer vehicle.

Don’t focus on payments.  Let’s say your current vehicle is paid off and worth $20k and the new one costs $40k.  Now picture your current vehicle sitting next to the new one but the current one has $20k in cash sitting on the passenger seat.  Which one do you want?  Certainly changed my perspective.

And that's why you're not selling new cars,,,,,,,

A pickup will probably do just fine as a gas guzzling patrol car 99% of the time. The problems will come when officers get into heated pursuits and forget or don't know that they shouldn't try to keep up with a Mustang through the corners. Ford probably got brave and pursuit rated the F150 after GM pursuit rated their jacked up 2" more pickup, both will probably be facing billion dollar class action lawsuits for rollover crash injuries and deaths in these trucks in a few years.

You don't really think the 2024 F-150 Police Responder is a new idea, do you?  They first launched it back in the 2018MY, so there's been 5-6 years to prove the concept.

Nice thing about a Mustang is there ain't far to fall, climbed into an F150 Lightning and was astonished that there was no handhold on the right side so I could do the proper "3 points of contact" climb into the cab. And as a sometime wheelchair user I know the Mustang is probably the only Ford product left here than is low enough for transfers without a $10K lift chair or chair lift.

Really?  I find my 80 y/o sisters' 2003 Mustang to be a PITA to get in/out of, my Maverick is much easier. My brother & SIL find their Edges easier to use than their previous Fusion.

Most people preferred the edgier, more futuristic Hyundai over the conservative Ford at first. Now, the Santa Cruz is already starting to look outdated, and the maverick's design seems to get better and better looking with time.

All one has to do is look at the sales numbers between the 2, and let the facts speak for themselves.  The people who "preferred" the Santa Cruz aren't actually willing to put their money behind their opinion.

I still think a longer version of Bronco Sport with 2wd, hybrid and less aggressive styling is the answer.

Interesting that you mention a longer BS. Last week, while taking delivery of my '24 Maverick, I asked my wife to look at the BS they had in the showroom, as a possible replacement for our Daughters '18 Escape.  The only thing she mentioned was the lack of legroom in the back seat, that putting a car seat in would be a problem.
