If I put the ground on the tester on the second battery and touch the positive on the car battery, the light turns on... I've done this before on previous cars and never had any issues. A second battery is a lot more portable than trying to find a good ground that's within the foot and a half reach of the tester's ground wire... If you say it won't work, fine.

In other cars I've found the most reliable ground is to use another battery. I tried finding good grounding locations by hooking up the tester to the positive end of the battery and then touching bare metal screws or painted surfaces. Couldn't get a good ground on any of them. This is why I use a battery.

Still haven't had any luck. Today I took one of the rear door panels off to scout for a wire for my ambient lighting. I'd like to add one in the map pockets on the doors and above the door handles like the stock ambient lighting. There's something I'm doing wrong with the tester though because I can't get a reading on anything. I have another car battery that I hook the ground to on the tester and then I use the pointy end to test wires. No matter what wire I tried, nothing. Tried the connections into the speaker (with the radio on) and nothing. Tried all the wires into the power windows. Nothing. All 3 of the wires that go up to the LED for the door lock indicators. Nothing. I don't understand why this tester isn't showing a hot wire! Any have any idea as to what I'm doing wrong?

I was wondering if anyone could point me in the proper direction as to a location of an interior lighting wire. I hope to add some LED footwell lights and want a wire I can tap into. Eventually, I might also want to add the illuminated door sills. I know that the instructions in the door sills instruct you to tap into the wire up in the overhead console but I have to believe there must be a wire behind the dash or under the carpet that I can use. The power has to get up there some an SJB or something right? Today I pulled back the carpeting in both the driver's and passenger side foot well. There were a couple really big harnesses on the passenger side with lots of wire coming in and out. Could any of these be an interior light wire? I know the wire for the interior lighting is supposed to be violet/gray but that didn't help. I found a violet/gray wire in the passenger well but when I tested it, it wasn't hot with the lights on. I'm hoping that one doesn't have to go all they way to the overhead console as I've heard it's easy to break the clips. While I'm at it, I guess I should ask the location of a good ground bolt/screw. I would prefer to run a new ground with an O ring connector. On my previous car (99 Taurus) there were grounding bolts behind the door sill trim panels. Couldn't find anything like that on the Fusion today. Why do they have to make things more complicated? Lol. Thanks in advance.

So does that mean cars without the Sony system still have the wiring? Would be interesting to see if you could add all the Sony stuff... The USB must have fallen out of the pocket of whoever sat in the back seat with the last owner... On the topic of wiring, are non Titaniums wired for ambient lighting? If they are wired for the Sony subwoofers, maybe I'll get lucky? I don't want to add a "factory" ambient lighting system but would like to add my own.

I was in the backseat cleaning some spots in the headliner today and I folded down the seat on the passenger side of the car and lifted up the trunk mat. I spotted some wire bundles and went in for a closer look. I found this wire harness and am interested if anyone knows what it's for. Also, I randomly found this iPhone USB charging cable in the exact same spot... When I first saw the USB part of it I thought I found a secret USB port lol... Anyways, the wire harness seems to come off a bundle that I presume leads to the fuel pump.

You got that idea from the movie Fargo! I used to blur my plates like 5 years ago. Then I realized, who cares?

I've only had the car for 3 tank fulls of gas so far, the first was regular, the second was premium, and then the third was back to regular. Now that I've gone back to regular (I was forced to as I was running on fumes at midnight and the only station open was out of premium and mid grade), there IS a noticeable difference. I used to laugh at people that put premium in cars that recommended regular because I'd say "you can't tell the difference!". Now that I'm back on regular, I find the engine a lot noisier and it's not as responsive.

Also, the trim piece under the steering wheel... Is that just something that pulls off? I'm also trying to get some ideas as to where to access a wire for the interior lighting. I want to add some footwell lights and would like to tap into the lights that open with the doors. Anyone know where such a wire might be?

Personally I prefer the look of the current MFT to the Sync 3 thing. It looks like it's from some cheap smart phone from 5 years go. Plus I have 0 issues with the current MFT.

Awesome! I actually have a pair of nylon pry tools from my previous car. They aren't quite as fancy as those but they do the job and don't scratch. Thanks a lot for the PDF. Now I just have to stress about damaging the gloss black trim pieces lol. I don't suppose you found the separate PDF for removal of the window switch control?

You mean it wasn't the colour that sold you!? I'm in love with the Ruby Red. Wouldn't have it in any other colour! And someone else on another forum was questioning whether or not my car was a 2014 or a 2015 because it had AWD. They were like "2014 SE didn't have AWD as an option! Are you sure it's not a '15?" and my response was "yes, I'm pretty sure..." lol.

When you buy used, they will put that vehicle protector junk on as a way to jack up the price. I don't think mine has a Sirius sticker... Weird. The hole drilling for the spoiler doesn't bother me too much. As long as you get a good template and use a sharp drill bit. Also it probably helps to put masking tape around the holes just in case you miss the mark. But again, I'm not 100% that I want a spoiler just yet. As for the wiring, all I really want to know is which wire is for the interior courtesy lights and where the harness runs. There has to be a wire that runs up to the headliner somewhere and that's all I would need for the footwell lights. I also just have to be cautious of the placement of them. Keep them out of the way of the knee airbags. I just find it's a more finished look and you don't have to have a prop rod in your face when working under the hood.

They are nit picks, but I'm the kind of person that gets set in his ways lol. The only reason I complain about the intermittent wipers is because when I picked up the car, it was during a bit of a snow storm. Very wet snow. The whole drive home I couldn't find a good speed for the wipers. It was always way too frequent and the blades would chatter. When driving in snow, as long as your windshield is hot, it will melt the snow on contact, so you really only need the occaisional swipe to get rid of the water buildup. I kept on having to use the 1 swipe feature which I forgot to put on my list of favourite things... I like the factory spoiler and have been thinking of getting one. I don't know if it would look out of place with the "luxury" look of the vehicle. Maybe that's why you chose the lower profile one. The first mod I did to it was remove the dealer plaque from the trunk and I got rid of some stickers on the windows. There were 2 of those "this vehicle is protected by VIN LOCK" or whatever and one on the passenger window that says "Objects in mirror are closer than they appear" but in french. I ordered some LEDs for the reverse lights and license plate lights. Hopefully I'll have them by the end of the week. I also ordered a couple LED module type lights as I want to test adding some footwell lighting/ambient lighting. I need to find some wiring diagrams of the car but there's not that much out there! I would also like to get a hood strut kit that Steeda makes. Get rid of the damn prop rod. I live in Niagara!

Got my '14 Ruby Red SE a few weeks back Had a '99 Taurus before so this is quite the upgrade! Here the 2 gals are together: Obviously I love the car. There's some things that are quirky and I prefer the way the Taurus is. Since the ways I love this car are innumerable, I'm going to focus on a few of the peeves. 1) The 60/40 split rear seats. The 40 should be on the driver's side and the 60 on the passenger's side ala the Taurus. As the driver, you're inclined to open the rear door on the driver's side more than the passenger's side. And most of the time, I just want to put down ONE seat so I can fit something longer and narrow in. I want to keep the majority of the seats up if I can. The way it's set up in the Fusion, I either have to put down 60% of the seats or walk to the passenger side. 2) Fuel filler on driver's door. Makes much more sense on passenger side. If you run out of gas on the side of the road, it's much safer. When you go to get gas, 90% of the world has their filler on the driver's side so you get a competitive edge on the passenger side. Also, on the passenger side, when you exit the car, it's to the opposite side of the pump. Thus no banging doors on the pumps/barricades. 3) Lack of intermittent wiper settings. I think there's only like 4 + low and high. The first setting is way too frequent. I just want something that swipes once every minute or so! The Taurus had like 10 settings. 4) Placement of the wiper control. Ford always put the wiper controls on the turn signal stalk. It's where I'm used to it. But I guess there's so many more buttons nowadays that they needed another stalk! 5) Construction of windshield wipers. I like the design of the wipers so that more of the windshield is cleared, but they seem really flimsy. Also, I'm worried about next winter and ice building up in the area between the windshield and the hood where the wipers "park". Add to the fact that the windshield washer nozzles are in this same area spells disaster. I had a 1993 Taurus that had a very similar setup. Nozzles in the cowl, and wipers that parked in a valley between the hood and windshield. Ice/snow would always collect there and block the nozzles/freeze up the wipers. The '99 solved this issue by having no such valley, nozzles mounted on the hood, and wipers that parked much higher up on the windshield. 6) The valley between the rear windshield and the trunk lid. Again, snow/ice collects here and when you open the trunk you hear this loud sound of the ice cracking. Then it spills into the trunk and makes another noise when you close. Again, the '99 was much better because it had no such valley. The rear windshiled was level with the trunk lid so snow just slid right off. 7) Touch capative controls. Impossible to use with gloves on. 8) Passenger seat is only 4 way power adjustable. You see the controls and think "ooo I bet it can go up and down, side to side and recline up and down!". But nope, it just goes back and forth and reclines. No up and down. 9) Flat glove box. The glovebox has shelfs and looks way bigger than it actually is. Also, why does the light only illuminate the bottom shelf? The fact it has any light at all and a lock are two big thumbs up though. I guess I miss the more "bin" style glovebox where you could just throw all your crap in it and it would hold it. 10) Single rear interior light. What happened to the days where each rear passenger got their own light? 11) No footwell lights. 12) "Max Defrost". I don't understand what the point of this is. Are you supposed to use it when you first get into your car on a really cold day? No, because all it would do is blow cold air in your face until the car warms up. So when do you use it? After you've been driving the car around for a while and it's warm? Again, no, because by that time, just the regular defrost would have cleared most of it off, making "Max Defrost" unnecessary. "Max A/C" in cars makes sense because A/C systems blow cold immediately upon start up. Plus recycling already cool cabin air makes it more efficient than drawing in hot outside air. You don't get the same thing with Max Defrost. A car takes time to warm up and it's better to use outside air to defrost since inside air is more humid and will fog up your windows! 13) 2.0L Ecoboost with AWD is a bit of a gas pig but I had read so many reviews of the car with similar complaints, that I was expecting it. But again, those are just nit picks. I really love the car. And yes, I see the irony in it because it sounds like I just flammed the car lol. My favourite features are: 1) Sync/MFT. Don't understand why people hate this so. I have no issues. 2) Electrochromatic rear/side mirror. No more blinding glare at night! 3) LED turn signals in side mirrors. Just plain cool. 4) LED lights everywhere! 5) Global open/close. Will get lots of use this summer. 6) Turn signal. I think Ford perfected the "auto turn signal" or whatever it's called. Touch up/down once and you get 3 blinks. Push up/down, stalk is held in position and blinks continuously until you turn or shut if off manually. The previous system that was simply touch up/down and the car figures out if you are just changing lanes or turning often made mistakes. 7) Heated seats. 3 settings FTW! 8) Sound system. I just have the 6 speaker system and it sounds great! 9) Safety. So many airbags and those A pillars are as thick as telephone poles! Knee airbags are always a favourite when going over the features with friends/family. 10) Good headlights. As with every Fusion generation so far, the headlights are bright and the hi beams are SUPER bright!

Yes this is an old topic, but I'm needing some guidance on how the door panels get removed. I've found the two at the bottom of the door, but are the ones by the handle/latch hidden in some manner? Can't seem to find them.
