  1. That’s true, Unifor isn’t the UAW they’re their own entity. I just hope we don’t get a less than UAW contract AGAIN! Then again we’re just poor cousin Canadians up here!
  2. My Unifor union is taking the quiet approach I actually like what the UAW is doing. We all deserve some gains I don’t think all of what is being proposed will happen. That’s my opinion though.
  3. So then what do YOU think will be the results of this show and Sabre rattling??
  4. It’s all about aerodynamics according to what I’ve read. They have no product to show yet they’re probably still working out the kinks. Remember that the Mach-e and these two products OAC is supposed to get were all gonna be built at Cuatitlan Assembly. We will see if the Mach-E ever gets to the numbers they want. Interesting ideas you have that I doubt Ford will do unfortunately.
  5. I’m taking it with a big grain of salt. Jim Farley said the Edge is a commodity product, so why would they make an EV version. They still haven’t told us or showed us what we will be building at OAC. Just rumours and hearsay!
  6. Makes me sick that China has some better looking products than we do in my opinion.
  7. It’s a great vehicle but we know it’s not coming to North America like ever lol
  8. Agreed that wagon Chinese Edge sure as hell don’t look like an Edge to me.
  9. The Evos looks great but it reminds me of an ICE version of the Mach-E. It’s quite clear that they have styling similarities. Am I wrong?
  10. Now in saying what I said obviously the 300 that remained were probably very high seniority workers but Oshawa had an older workforce and there were a lot of buyouts. I thought that plant was dead in the water then they reopen it that’s why I allege they did what they did to get a cheaper workforce. I forgot about Detroit Hamtramack being converted to EV as well.
  11. I don’t blame them for fighting that nobody wants their plant to close which is obvious.
  12. I don’t think that UAW strike at the time was that effective. I don’t remember the details. I do remember GM UAW was down for a month to minimal gains if I’m not mistaken.
  13. The strike that GM had in Canada was the GM CAMI plant in Ingersol, Ontario in 2017. The strike was for a month. GM moved the Terrain and eventually some Equinox production to Mexico and threatened to close the plant now they’re building GM Brightdrop vans with limited production because they don’t have enough batteries. GM I believe knew what they were doing all along and did a legacy dump to get rid of older workers and rehire new cheaper workforce. Only 300 people remained after plant closed as Oshawa was only a stamping operation and test track until it fully reopened.
  14. One of those 4 plants you mention was GM OSHAWA which closed in 2019 and was resurrected a couple of years later cranking out ICE pick up trucks. Unifor territory.
  15. I don’t even think your scenario is far fetched at all. You’re right these vehicles have been allocated to 4 different facilities now with Oakville being the 4th for now lol. The two crossover BEV were originally slated for flat rock then Ohio. Don’t forget that the UAW at Ohio was livid when these vehicles were then slated to be built in Mexico. So now what?? The Mach E will not hit 270000 anytime soon if those other BEVs were there maybe they would have good capacity. Plans may not change again and maybe the crossovers final home will be OAC but would I be shocked if ford changed the script again??? NOPE! Current Nautilus is supposed to be done here DEC 15, 2023. When will they start shipping the Chinese Nautilus here??
  16. Good point. It’s gonna be a long launch as Ford will want to get it right the first time. They have to have adequate battery supply and now with all this Hybrid chatter it’s fair to believe there will be delays
  17. You’re correct the cost of living up here in the Greater Toronto Area is insane. You summed it up. Everything is expensive housing is insane. All the points you made are valid. I expect we will get a raise it WILL NOT be 40 percent up in Unfor land and UAW ain’t getting 40 percent either. That’s just my pessimistic belief. Fain is aiming for the ceiling which I guess he should but we all know some of the things he’s going for ain’t gonna happen!
  18. Yikes! Well that does sound like a disaster. No way in hell does not cost reductions make it any good. F that shit!
  19. Nothing is rolling out of Oakville assembly in 2024. I think you know that anyways. I believe there will be no saleable units til 2025 at the earliest. Rumored Edge extension til May 2024. 6 month retool you get the picture.
  20. In regards to what you’re saying about OAC I REALLY hope they lay out some more information soon. There are things going on at the plant I see lots of contractors and engineers walking around. It could have something to do with Chicago and the UAW WHO KNOWS as to why they changed the styling. Like I’ve said several times I can’t see one saleable unit coming out of here til mid 25 at the earliest. I believe though after the contract smoke clears more info with be forthcoming.
