  1. They haven't returned the truck yet. Basically, "that shouldn't have happened." They're going to spend another couple days trying to reproduce. If they can't, I'll take it, get it to make noise again, return, and take one of the techs on a drive, basically a "see, this is what predicated that event" Yeah, not real thrilled with the situation. I just hope it gets resolved before our first road trip this year. Otherwise, we'll be taking two vehicles again - F150 to tow the TT and everyone else in the other car. At which point I'll be hearing, "Why did we buy the new truck again?"
  2. a) I didn't order a luxury truck - I ordered an XLT. All the extra bells & whistles == extra stuff to break. Only thing I'll have to add is a power seat for front passenger. b) decent down payment c) Like everyone else says here, credit unions are your friend rate-wise
  3. Yeah, we'll see. They reset the computer, stopped having the issue. They don't know what caused it. I would have preferred a longer wait time if it meant I wasn't getting a problem.
  4. Actually, the engine in the Chevy isn't the original. Previous owner put a crate engine in it. It's got about 35k miles on it. It's only a regular cab, with a 12' stake body bed. I originally bought it to tow my tractors to shows back in 2000. That didn't pan out - I caught mono that year, was basically messed up for 6 months, changed jobs right after I came down with mono (that was an interesting discussion with my new boss). Fun fact: your liver and your spleen can swell because of mono. Risk of one was 66%, the other was 33% IIRC. I don't remember which was which. I won the lottery and got both. ER doctor basically said, "Don't get in any cars". Nope, don't know how I caught it. Only thing I can figure was I accidentally drank out of someone else's cup at the post-reception get together at my sisters wedding the week before. Met my wife 6 months later, haven't looked back - truck ended up getting used as a farm truck by my father. I'm not holding my breath. We haven't had the best of luck when a new vehicle decided it wasn't perfect. My wife's '03 Mustang convertible (her first new car!) was deathly allergic to power steering fluid the first month we owned it. 4 trips to the dealership later, 2 steering racks, one pump, one pump cap later finally had it sorted. I don't know if it was the fact the PN for the steering rack changed the second time they replaced it or the fact they put on a senior tech the last time was what did the trick. That dealership had a policy of having the same tech work on it if it came back, and they ate the time. Not conducive to getting it right. Took me arriving with a printout of our state's lemon law that 4th time and frank (no yelling - none needed, but yeah I pissed) discussion with the service advisor to get a change of tech. The advisor noticed the PN of the rack changed as well. Anyways, not a great experience, no, haven't been back to that dealership for service, both because of that and how their salespeople treated my wife during a later purchase that didn't end up happening there - twice! Other time was our '05 Freestyle. First family car. Say what you want about it, but it was comfortable inside first and second row, drove like a car. I gave my wife carte blanche to buy what she wanted. We test drove a lot of minivans. Toyota we turned down because they were demanding a premium and it drove like a minivan. Dodge - felt chintzy inside - and drove like a minivan. In fact, all the minivans drove like minivans. Wife's view, not mine. She loved the Freestyle. And it had lots of room, important if you're tall (we are). Rear facing car seats eat up a LOT of room. Anyways, Wrench light came on about 12k miles in, less than a year of ownership. Got towed to dealership. Stayed there for a month. Had a talk with them, basically, "What's going on?" It needed 4 O-Rings. 4 O-Rings. "What's the hold up?" New model, parts are only available in a transmission rebuild kit right now. "And?" Regional service manager doesn't want to break one of those open. "Have you informed him we're coming up on the boundary for our states new car lemon law timeline and that he's about to buy it back from me?" Funny, parts suddenly became available. Didn't have a problem with the car other than that. Sorry, looks like I'm in tome writing mode. Anyways, luckily A) it's not a primary vehicle for us - we bought it for towing, and B) silver lining for covid for me is I've been able to work from home last two years. I know - I've been very blessed.
  5. Hi all, Let me start by saying we had a pretty good order/delivery experience. I placed the order end September '21 for a '22 F250 crew cab 4x4 w/6.2l. The TT I'm towing when I'm towing is 4700lb dry. Honestly, I just needed the payload - basically 4 adults in the truck with my kids being teenagers now. I was 300lb over with our '11 F150 supercrew. The kids were MUCH smaller when we made that purchase. I didn't want to even have to think about whether we were getting close to max payload again. Anyhow, truck arrived early December, took a couple weeks to finalize delivery between the stuff the dealership was doing to the truck (Bed liner, etc.) and my bank being derpy about the financing. I didn't add any crazy options. I think that helped our delivery time. We've worked our way through about 1k miles at this point - just doing the break in driving. I started feeling/hearing some weird stuff, so I took it in. The last heavy duty truck I purchased was a used 84 chevy one ton diesel with a manual transmission - which I bought way back in 2000. The weirdness I was feeling was - well, the best I could describe it is it was like there was some slack when we let off the gas, gave things a few seconds, then eased on the gas again. There was a jerking sensation. That and it sounded like something was grinding when we were going up grade at moderate speed, just maintaining speed, not accelerating - on back roads, so like 30-35mph. They couldn't replicate anything. Fluids checked normal. Blah blah blah. Sounds and road feel were "normal for a heavy duty truck". Ok, sure, like I said, first new HD truck I've owned. Then again, I test drove a bunch of used superduties before opting to buy a new one instead, and hadn't heard/felt anything like this. I drive computers (SW programmer) for a living, so what do I know about how the truck should feel, right? So we get it back Sunday. Put a few more miles on it. Took it out tonight to do a last minute run to the grocery store - because, well, hey still got that new vehicle itch to drive it. 10-15 minute drive each way, tops, no highway. Drove there fine. On the way back, I started hearing the grinding again and felt it in the floorboards. Got most of the way home, and the engine started stuttering, and that evil yellow check engine light started flashing. Ugh. Lack of power. I was almost home, so babied it home. Got out of the truck, and could tell the exhaust was WRONG - had a bad smell to it. Had dinner, then threw the code scanner on it so I can (nicely) tell them to come get the truck tomorrow with some info. It came back with - P0017 (crankshaft/camshaft positions out of whack) primary, plus P0302 - misfire cylinder 2. Oh yay. Anyways, this is the start of my saga. Thought you'd all like to know. Specifics are: '22 F250 crew cab, 4x4, 6.2l, 4.30:1 rear end, XLT, and we got the camper/snow plow prep package just in case (wife's suggestion on camper, dealer suggestion on snow plow prep to increase resale value if we ever wanted to sell it). I'm hoping it isn't something catastrophic. I had bought the truck with the intention of going camping this spring and summer with the kids. My son is a junior now, so we've got one, maybe two more seasons. We COULD go camping with the F150 again, but we'd be taking a second car to keep payload down in the truck, that'd really cramp our style if we wanted to do any long distance drives.
  6. Thanks! The cherry on top was I kept finding out after we had ordered that other people had the same experience with this dealership. The farmer we buy our milk from is on his fourth super duty from them. He buys one every 10 years.
  7. Have the bed liner sprayed in locally. The difference in cost was minimal, and you can find a shop that will back out the bolts before spraying in. Having the bolts holding the bed on the frame sprayed means the liner is damaged if the bed ever has to come off for repair work.
  8. I saw the 1k mile break in period in my manual. Dealer told me 500 miles was fine. It's not an issue for me either way. I'm not towing the camper until spring. Frankly, I wasn't expecting the truck to come in for another month or two. We bought it mostly to supplant the F150 for towing the camper.
  9. The entire process at the dealer I ended up with was awesome. 10 weeks from order late September to arrival at dealership early December. Another 2 weeks before I got it. Part of it was getting the spray in bed liner and tonneau cover installed. Part of it was a snafu with my financing. Somehow the online application submitted before I got the final numbers in. It took the bank a week to reprocess and send me new check. That wasn't the dealers fault - I used my credit union. No local branches, so everything was online. I managed 10 weeks by not going for a lot of optional content I just didn't need. I do wish we had ordered the Lariat instead of the XLT, but the difference in price for the things we did want was too much to justify. Did the same with the bed liner and tonneau cover - had dealership install. They pointed out if you want a spray in liner you want it done locally anyways, as the local shops will take out the bolts, spray the bed and then replace the bolts. That way if there's any repair work that needs to lift the bed off the frame you haven't just ruined the liner. The difference was minimal, and I got to support a local company. Dealership itself was awesome: I spent a few hours over a couple of evenings going over the order with the salesperson before we placed it. No pressure sales, no pressure to use their financing, no pressure to buy an extended warranty. No mention of the service plan (bought one for my '14 Fusion from a different dealership. What a joke. Did not get my money back on that. I'm at 91k miles and still have the original brakes. I'm going to swap those out this year not because they're close to failing but because the rotors are showing some rust according to the last inspection). Reasonable fees. They didn't do X-plan pricing - too much hassle for small dealership. I went with them because they were honest with me, I could clearly see where they were making their money, they didn't gouge, and the dealership fees were reasonable, without some B.S. made up fee. I could have gotten the truck for about $1k less at the local mega dealership, but I would have been clicking "F" on the purchase experience. That salesperson ignored my wife (guess who drives the F-150 most of the time, and the Expedition before that. Wasn't me), they tried the hard sell, and the B.S. fees were laughable.
  10. I'm still amazed at the huge variety of order experiences listed here. I got really lucky - we ordered an XLT 250 6.2l supercrew 9/28. I just got the "it's been made" email. Supposedly will be at the dealership by 12/6, and we got a $2k PCO to throw at it. I think my wife and good fortune in short delivery time was due to not ordering much additional content.
  11. Just got my window sticker printed today for a 250 XLT. I hadn't checked in a few days. Suddenly it's marked in production, but no email letting me know as such - last one I got was a notification of a week slippage to build week next week. I'm hoping it actually goes through - I didn't order a bunch of extra content. What's other peoples experiences been? So far it seems to have been pretty straightforward for me - I placed order late September, got a build date a couple weeks later. They slipped it a week one week before it was supposed to be produced. According to the email, should be getting built next week. I know there's a lot of "slip, slip, slip again" posts on here, but a lot of them seem to be "but I ordered X, Y, Z".
  12. Just got mine - $2000, SuperDuty included. Ordered our F-250 end of September, just got a VIN and a build week of November 8 (supposedly). I briefly toyed with the idea of switching the order from a XLT to a Lariat w/the value package, but decided I want to make sure the truck gets here by the time the offer expires. Really the only thing we wanted from the Lariat trim level was the power passenger front seat. Guess I'm still doing that myself. $2k is $2k though. How did I do it? I get these occasionally. I've bought new from Ford over the years: '97 F-150 XLT Supercab, '98 Mercury Mystique LS, 2003 mustang convertible (wife's first new car), 2003 mustang mach 1 (fun!), 2005 Freestyle, 2014 Ford Fusion w/manual transmission. We'd started mostly buying used because I didn't want to pay the premium for that new car smell, but we need a better tow vehicle and ordering from a dealership seems to be the most money saving route these days, rather than buy used. I've also asked for brochures occasionally over the years on vehicles I'm interested in and have gone on more than a few used F-150 test drives this year from Ford dealerships. Just couldn't justify paying that much for a used truck for a want. Pulled the trigger because I'd like to be able to take my teenager kids camping on longer trips a few more times next couple years before they're out of the house.
  13. Maintenance plan: don't. Seriously. I did it on my '14 Fusion. I was all happy as could be about it, blah blah blah. My brakes made it through the period, so they never got done. 90k miles on those and still looking good. My reasoning for don't: I'm going to have to go back and read the 'covers' section. But yesterday, I went to change the air filter on my 90k Fusion. Last time service had been done by the dealership was 72k miles, I figured it was time to swap out the filter. I took a look at the filter for kicks and grins. Found the part number (yay). Then, right under the part number, I find in smaller font a 6 digit number - 140309. My Fusion was built late March/early April. I know because I special ordered it. Only way to get a manual transmission Fusion at that point. Ford wasn't floor planning any. So - either it's a build date for the filter, or revision date for the filter. I'm guessing the former, seeing as my MPG just went way up, and it's been slowly trending downward over the last 40k miles. If you think it's a good deal, cool, but take the time to read all the sections on what it covers, and make sure they're actually doing the services they claim they'll be doing. I won't be getting one for my F-250. Ordered late September. Just got a build date of week of November 8.
  14. I got mine today, so I guess so. F250 6.2l XLT supercrew. Ordered 9/27, Confirmed 9/28. First build date received today 10/14 for week of November 8. We'll see if that holds - but I didn't put too many options on the order sheet.
  15. Hey everyone. I placed an order for an F-250 XLT 6.2l gasser at the beginning of the month. I just got my supposed build date (week of November 8). What's everyone's experience with actual build date compared to first provided date? I'm not in any rush for the truck - as long as it arrives before next camping season I'm good to go.
