Dodge Grand Caravan and Journey put to the pasture
T-dubz replied to rmc523's topic in Competing Products
chrysler has the Pacifica and the 300. Dodge will have Durango, challenger, and charger. Ram has the trucks and vans. Fiat has a few variants of the 500 and then the 124 spider. With so few models, you can barely call any of those a brand by themselves. It would probably be more cost effective if they dropped a few models and then combined all the brands into one. -
per CarGurus.com, there are 172 2020 escapes within 50 miles of my zip code. Of those, 142 have been on dealer lots for 90 days or more. nationwide, there are 22487 escapes listed on their website with 16709 being on the lot for 90 days or more. so basically 75-80% of stock has been on dealer lots for 90 days or more.

What direction do you think ford will take with the escape? I think most people will find the sport to be the better looking vehicle of the two, there are a few question marks about the sport that I think could affect its sales though, size and price. I think one of the issues for the escape sales is price and with sport supposedly being more expensive, that could affect its sales. Size is also another concern, for me at least. All the auto websites have been comparing it to the renegade or compass. Some on these forums have compared it to the size of the previous gen escape. All of those seem too small. One of the biggest complaints about the old escape was rear seat legroom and that’s why the current escape has the sliding rear seat. Not having the same legroom and sliding seat seems like it could be a big mistake for the sport. I personally would have liked to see the sport being slightly larger than the current escape.

If you look at the big picture, I don’t think things look good for escape (down 49%). The Ecosport is a terrible vehicle and it was only down 19%. Edge Has had the same interior forever and is overdue for a full redesign and it was only down 36%. If you look at the other CUVs in ford’s line up that were recently redesigned, the picture looks even worse. Explorer actually increased 12% and outsold the escape. Corsair was only down 8%.

Are these dealer installed or do they come from the factory like that? motor1 says these can be added to 2019 and 2020 rangers as well so I’m guessing it’s installed by the dealer. pretty nice kits.

I get what you are saying. What throws it off for me is the somewhat oval shape of the trim on the grille (the chrome outer ring on the blue truck below). It doesn’t seem to flow well with the rest of the square and rectangular shapes on the rest of the front. The trim on the STX is body colored so it blends in better and if you look at the lariat, it’s missing the trim altogether so it looks better in my opinion.

They gotta save something for next year to keep up the excitement. I bet in the next few years you will see an FX2 and a Tremor.

True, and the body didn’t change much over that time period at all, but playing it safe is how you let the competition catch up. This redesign won’t hurt ford at all and that’s what ford’s betting on, but a gamble here and there could have increased market share. Trucks are expensive these days, people don’t want to spend that much money on something that doesn’t look new.

You could also argue that between the 9th and 11th generations of F-150, you saw dramatic changes in each generation, all of which helped the F-150. Ever since the 12th gen, it seems we have pretty much had the same exterior minus the headlight and grille changes. With evolutionary styling, you run the risk of your product looking dated prematurely. Imagine if I were to buy a new F-150 in 7 or 8 years at the end of this new generations lifecycle. That truck will look pretty similar to a truck that’s 20 years old.

the body of the Silverado is actually pretty nice. It’s problems are the interior and the front end. I think the trail boss looks pretty good as is.

The front is where they are most different, switch the pics to a profile view and they look very similar. At the link below there are pics with sliders so you can compare the two. On the profile pics, the vent and the character lines on the wheel wells seem to be the biggest changes. On the 3/4 view the hood looks almost identical. Besides the front, the changes are so small that if you were driving past one and didn’t see the front, you’d hardly be able to tell the difference. https://www.motor1.com/features/430826/2021-ford-f150-old-new-compare/

that left turn assist makes me a bit nervous. At least I’m assuming you can turn it off.
