Kris Kolman
Mazda is apparently out there modifing the Feista platform to make it more flexible for worldwide consumption... Is this the first look at that effort? And after countless years of showing a concept will Ford send one to these shores for us to buy? http://www.thecarconnection.com/Enthusiast...178.A11891.html

igor
the B2C platform is ALL NEW cooperation between Ford OE and Mazda .. and it will be underpin all current Ford B-cars and MAzda2 and US bound models. We are getting at least one car on this platform - I expect the Fiesta with slightly different nose to come states side, but others point out that last we heard ford was undecided what they will do whether a Fiesta type standard B-segment, or an upscale Mini-type b-segment .. we have not heard any semi-reliable reports since then. But we are getting a b-segment on this platform. Igor

Kris Kolman
Suppose then question is if we are getting it, but when? For what seems 10 yrs now Ford has been B-car concepts, and yet nothing... The beifits are the same, protects the lineup from being erroed from below, gives Ford less of a gas guzzlers only apply image, and allows the Focus to be a more focused product by not have to compete with the Koreans and Golf at the same time. Again this is an unconfirmed assertion on my side. Actual reports state anything between next year and 2012 ... but from what I understand about the company, I expect production to begin in 2009 - mostly based on the fact that th US production of the B-segment utility van Transit-Connect is to start in 2009. A Mercury upscale small car I think would fit perfectly, but the Ford brand simply doesn't have "upscale" appeal like a Mini. The Ford B-car should be stylish but still be oriented to the value shopper, both in terms of purchase price and gas-mileage. Give Mercury a uniquely styled upscale variant off the same platform, similar to Volvo S40 vs Mazda3.
LSFan00
Imagine 72MPG in a Focus C2 hatch or a Fiesta. The press alone would justify selling 10-100K of them. I don't think it will happen, but with the right leadership it could. http://www.autobloggreen.com/2007/02/09/pi...uk-with-72-4-m/ PS: this vehicle might be sold in the US: The guys over at eGMCarTech are reporting that Volkswagen is considering launching the b-class Polo in the US market. If it does come over here it could launch sometime around 2010. The Polo is smaller than the Rabbit/Golf, and in fact a previous generation was sold in North American market in the late eighties as the VW Fox. The Fox was built and exported from Brazil, and was never very successful. As the price of existing VW models continues to climb, a small stylish modern car priced competitively with the Honda Fit and Toyota Yaris could do well here especially if they bring a BlueTec diesel variant. Something like the BlueMotion Polo would be even more efficient in real world terms than any of the hybrids on the market. In Europe, the Polo is available as a two or four door hatch, and also as the Outback-like CrossPolo. Hell, the marketing upsides are huge. Imagine pitching "Get an F350 Work truck and we'll provide a get-around bio-diesel Fiesta that gets 70 MPG for only $5K more, signed by Willie Nelson." So much for average fleet economy problems. Biker16
Ford could easly sell 5 B-cars under 3 brands Ford Mainstream Fiesta 3door/sedan youth Reflex 3 door coupe Truck.Trucky version of EUFusion CUV named Escort Mercury EUfusion CUV tall roof fiesta Mazda Mazda2 5 door hatch whay soo many? because it is cheap to do, and reduces risk if one model misses its performance targets. Biker16
Transit Connect is C1, not B2C transit connect is not C1, its closer to C170. ford offically calls it a standalone archtechture. it frontal structure is C170, along with it's HVAC, and auxileries., the Floorpan is pure truck, flat and reinforced for its 2000lbs of payload. and solid axle
