Nick Martin
I bought a used 2006 ZX5 ses with 28k miles for my wife last June. We love the car by the way. The brakes have become very noisy, so I took it to my mechanic now with 32k miles. He said it looks like the rotors and drums were really rough, and had destroyed the pads and shoes. Isn't this a little early to be servicing the brakes all the way around? I figured the pads and rotors would be good for 50k, and the shoes would last even longer. The car is still under warranty. Should I just have the work done, or is it worth going to the dealer? Edited November 27, 2007 by Nick Martin
akirby
I don't know about "breaks" but if you're talking about "brakes" then 32K is not unheard of if those were mostly stop-n-go miles versus highway cruising. I don't think the warranty will cover it after 12K miles but it won't hurt to call and ask. Also, rotors don't wear out pads - it's the other way around. NickF1011
Also, rotors don't wear out pads - it's the other way around. They can if the rotors are warped or somehow screwed up in another way.
