Stus1171
I just picked up my new 08 Focus SES (ordered in February) today. It's Vista Blue, black leather, and a 5 speed. My wife has a 08 Focus SES automatic, so I knew it would be a great car. I do have a question though. My wife's has the autolock/unlock feature, but my car does not. I wasn't sure if it is because of the difference in transmission, or if it was left off as an oversight from the factory. Thanks! blazerdude20
there are ways to change it with the key. http://www.focusfanatics.com/howtos/autolock/ or the simpler way might be to take it to the dealer and have them do it good luck

It's as if the car does not have the feature at all.
blazerdude20
that was from the old focus'. i guess it isnt the same. but this is from the owners manual of the 08 focus. to enable autolock(if equiped) 1. using the setup button scroll to the autolock screen in message center. 2. use reset button to pick between on/off to enable auto-unlock 1. using the setup button scroll to the auto-unlock screen in message center. 2. use reset button to pick between on/off http://www.motorcraftservice.com/pubs/cont...0/08focog1e.pdf pages 58-59 this is the other option they list: page 63 Power door unlock/lock procedure Before starting, ensure the ignition is in the 1 (LOCK) position and all vehicle doors are closed. You must complete Steps 1–5 within 30 seconds or the procedure will have to be repeated. If the procedure needs to be repeated, wait a minimum of 30 seconds before beginning again. 1. Place the key in the ignition and turn the ignition to the 3 (RUN) position. 2. Press the power door unlock control on the door panel three times. 3. Turn the ignition from the 3 (RUN) position to the 1 (LOCK) position. 4. Press the power door unlock control on the door panel three times. 5. Turn the ignition back to the 3 (RUN) position. The horn will chirp one time to confirm programming mode has been entered and is active. 6. To enable/disable the autolock feature, press the unlock control, then press the lock control. The horn will chirp once if autolock was deactivated or twice (one short and one long chirp) if autolock was activated.
Stus1171
When I scroll through the message center it does not offer the option. As I said above, I tried the door lock method in the owners manual and it did not work.
johnjyi
The instructions forgot the last step that might (probably not though) work: Turn the ignition to the 1 (OFF/LOCK) position. The horn will chirp once to confirm the procedure is complete. Anyway, I do wonder if it has to do with the manual transmission...thought it really shouldn't. I also own one with manual transmission, and it did not come with the autolock on. Of course, I wasn't relaly looking for it, though. My 2008 Mustang and 2007 Mariner have it, and I find it to be more of a nuisance than anything.
blazerdude20
the more i think about it, it probably is because of the tranny. the locks unlock when put into a non-moving gear(park) a 5 speed doesnt technically have one and it would be hard for the computer in the car to know what gear it was in. its probably another one of those things you cant get on 5spd to protect the company. like remote start

StevenCaylor
I remember my 87 Thunderbird had the auto lock feature with the 5 speed manual. The doors would lock as you shifted out of reverse.

I did order mine X-plan, but I doubt that makes a difference in delivery time. Edited March 25, 2008 by Stus1171
