I thought us and them were supposed to meet in arbitration yesterday. When the CAW wants us to vote their way they never leave us alone, now you can't find a rep anywhere.

When are our union dues going down? Has anyone seen exactly where each dollar of our dues ends up?

Part of it goes to the National, the rest goes to the various expenses that are outlined in the financial report. There are copies given out at almost all union meetings. Come out sometime and see for yourself.

Strange how the financial secretary never mentions our finances in her report in the 707. Talks about every other possible thing but finance.

You will have a copy of the statement, ask questions if you have concerns. Why come to an INTERNET forum and try to wind people up?

When are we going to learn? Our union will back down on the shutdown just like they do on everything else. They put up the tough "we aint taking this crap" front then quickly back away quoting some bullshit about the company being able to run the business as they see fit.Does the union really care about the everyday worker anymore??Most of these guy's are so out of touch with reality in the plant due to the extra benefits they get i.e overtime coming out of their asses, take their vacation whenever they want.If they want 2 weeks together you know they will get it,and we just keep voting them back in year after year.

What we all need to understand is that right now we as a membership have forgotten what the term solidarity means. I have personally been involved in a battle regarding a job reduction. While I have tried to fight the job elimination on my end, it appears my counterpart has thrown in the towel. While job reductions are and always will be a way of life, it does not mean we as workers just grab our ankles and assume the position.

Right now our plant is witness to some of the most intense job reductions I have ever seen in 17 years. What I am suggesting is that if a job seems to be overloaded and overcycled, fight it the proper way. Talk to your counterpart and discuss if you have a legitimate beef. Utilize time study, ergonomics, health and safety. DO NOT go to first aid and get a restriction, because this allows the company a chance to utilize another indiv. who may perform the job to their specs. We must, as a plant return to an era where SOLIDARITY stood for something. All of our union reps are not perfect, but then who is? Ask for their help, and guidance, and when neccessary give them a kick in the ass!

Tough talk, if you really think you can do better than run for office....things change when YOU are actually dealing with the company.

As far as the company having the right to run THEIR BUSINESS, you think thats bullshit????? Someone better be running it or all of us will be out of work. When that happens we can spend most of our time on the internet telling each other how tough and smart we were.

Ford seems to be doing something right lets hope they succeed and we get security.

Look,Iwould love to run for office if i thought that i could make a difference but the sad truth is its an old boys club in there and if you don't toe the party line you are thought to be a loose cannon that needs to be silenced. Please don't tell me i'm wrong,i've been to enough meetings and ratification votes to see how the people that argue a point are shouted down or told their time is up while some idiot drinking the kool-aid is allowed to ramble on forever. When are the leadership of our local going to push back?? i'll wait for you to give me some examples.I can't wait until our leadership lets the last of the premium jobs be outsorced to premier i heard Beck was going to let them have the checker reciever jobs this time if not for the commitee men from material handling saving them.Does the leadership care about these jobs leaving?? NO because premier is a union shop and thats all that matters now,the caw is a business and all that matters is membership numbers at whatever the cost!

I was at the last meeting on Jan 17. Our union proposes saving money (our union dues) by eliminating voting tables for the next election? Too bad 'skilled' trades squashed that one. A very easy way for our union to save $$$$$ (our union dues) would be to stop having the union executive meetings during work hours. How many elected union officials have to leave work at 1pm to attend one of these meetings at the union hall? Ford does not pay for this, we members pay. Not long ago the meetings were moved to after day shift was completed in order to save our hard earned money, but now it's been moved back and we are all paying the price.

I know some will be running this year for positions that actually care about the membership. I hope some win!

I have been a faithful union supporter all my life and even though I'm not a CAW member my wife is and sorry if I piss rank and file off but here is my union history. I was a union member at my first job 19 years .....lost job to plant closure. ..and no help to stop plant shut down!!!!.....next job I was a member of their union 10 years.....lost job to plant closure. no attempt.to stop plant closure....now am a TEMP... and I"m on call and pay union dues, but places have been out sourced and will get less call ins...so basically seeeeee yaaaaa. Now my wife a CAW member and St. thomas plant worker is throw"n to the wolves as has been predicted by a Oakville union comment way back( as I read the forum). So I would say SOLD OUT by the CAW. I do not know what has gone wrong but what I do know by EXPERIENCE is the so called UNION does not have your back and be careful who you trust. If this is how a UNION (CAW ) protects its rank and file then I would be very cautious. In life things are black and white and if there is a gray area watch out because money ...UNION DUES... will always come first only with the union ...why else would they charge union dues to a plant that is doomed to close. If you were a true UNION you would STOP dues to a plant you have admitted is done......but NO ...THE GREAT AND POWERFULL ...CAW ....still wants the money from the DOOMED ST.THOMAS PLANT>>> Oh YA thats right they got a severance >>>>>>that was LESS than GM plants closed , the company that took money to go bankrupt !!! THATS THE FACT SO PLEASE ENLIGHTEN ME and shove you're grammer and spelling comments. I respect a UNION that is HONEST and helps its people but if ...as in STAP case is done then why the extra burden to a pay cheak with a union due........once you say they are done why a due at all ....or why if the STAP union hall that was paid by STAP union dues..... the money of the sale go to the CAW and not go to STAP people retired and working.....THEY PAID FOR IT....NOT anyother plant... SORRY for the rant and I'm open for some constructive comments.......CAW and STAP CAW local answers would be helpful...again like I said we have been loyal union supporters but please helpfull answers to these questions.. I will support those that reflect a true meaning of UNION!!!!!

NOBODY SAID FUCK St. Thomas except YOU. The market is gone for your product. Sadly this happened at the worst time, the so called "perfect storm" has come and gone and your plant was one of many that became a casualty. So to get even you want all of us to be in your shoes??

Ford doing right

Ford is making money

Ford is gaining market share

Ford is making great vehicles

They are doing it with less capacity=less people=fewer plants, EVERYONE saw this coming. What should they have done?

Hopefully Ford's success will translate into jobs for all Staper's that are willing to come down the road.

I really don't care what the union does with it's money, just as long as they do the job that I am paying them to do. I am not a part of some quasi-communist organization. I just pay them to do a job. Under the present system, I do not have a choice. I am not happy with recent events. I am not happy that the union now has for clients, people who are now doing jobs that I once did and for less than half the pay. The union is being paid to improve things for it's clients, not throw them to the dogs, and then take on the dogs as new clients. How can we allow ourselves to be represented by the same union that represents our enemies? I have nothing against these people personally. Everybody has a right to work, but we are in an obvious adversarial position with them, and our union is supporting them and fighting for them and against us. One of us has to change unions.

Ford can build any product anywhere. There is no such thing as "your product". Oakville was building the LTD, and St. Thomas was building the Escort/Lynx. Then they switched. Oakville was building the Escort/Lynx and Tempo/Topaz, and St. Thomas was building the LTD. Why did they choose Oakville over St. Thomas? Who knows. Oakville is close to becoming like Atlanta Assembly; surrounded by city. Traffic problems hinder workers and parts from arriving on time. It was possibly a political decision. Maybe in the future they will close Oakville and move production to St. Thomas. Is the land for sale, or are they hanging on to it?
