armadamaster
Ford CVPI Extended Through 2011Written by Tony Gratson Production at the St. Thomas (Ontario, Canada) Assembly Plant (STAP) has been extended one year to 2011. This means that the Crown Vic Police Interceptor will be produced at least through the 2011 model year, including 2009, 2010 and 2011 models. Production on the 2009 model CVPIs started in late July. Last year, the STAP went to a single shift, five days a week, with continuous operations and is producing Lincoln Town Cars in addition to CVPIs and Mercury Grand Marquis sedans. There is plenty of production at STAP to meet the demands for CVPIs. Our order-to-delivery timing is running about 90 days from dealer order submission to delivery by the company to the dealership. This also is an exciting time for the Ford Police Advisory Board (PAB). The PAB members are invaluable in providing Ford Motor Co. recommendations for improving current police vehicles and assisting with our future police car plans. The law enforcement industry is very important to Ford Motor Co., and we are committed to supplying police vehicles to this industry. New for 2009 CVPI We continue to make improvements to the CVPI, and for the 2009 model year, there are several items. New standard equipment includes power-adjustable pedals and side combo (head / thorax) airbags. Power-adjustable pedals allow drivers to adjust the pedals for their use. As a reminder, the side combo airbags are located in the seat and do not interfere with rear partitions when deployed. The CVPI 4.6L engine is E85 Flexible Fuel capable and now certified for 50 states. The CVPI is the only police car built on a frame and 75-mph rear crash tested. Also, the 2009 CVPI will have a revised braking system, which will result in shorter stopping distances to an average of almost 10 feet. The friction material does not change. Two other improvements include disabling the confirmation flash with the courtesy lamp (option code 478), and making the deck lid release button operational on the key fob with remote keyless entry (option code 14C). We will also be turning Vehicle Special Order Options (VSO) into Regular Production Options (RPO), which will make these options easier to order and schedule for production. These options and their new RPO codes are optional chrome grille—66C; rear door locks and handles disabled—67B; spotlight prep with street appearance package—51B and 51Z; front and rear-side moldings not installed (shipped in trunk)—96C. SysEng
:reading: You know, this is almost NOT news. Provided Ford is still in business next year, let alone 2011, I expect the "panthers" to still be around. The only real news here might be that the "panthers" will not be restyled for another 4 years... and I guess that ain't exactly news either :shades:  Now I wonder if Ford will do themselves another favor and put the 09 F150 drivetrain ( 4.6LV8/3V and 6R80 tranny ) into the "panthers". At least that way, they can reduce their parts count and take advantage of economies of scale??? But, then, we complain about Ford's performance in the "panther" line. Look at how pitiful their F150 effort is. Ford will "upgrade" the '09 F150 to a SOHC3V engine where Toyota's Tundra has a very nice 5.7LV8/DOHC/4V/VVT/TDI package AND a 6 speed tranny. This is Ford undercutting their customers while the competition undercuts Ford... What more can we say... There's far more to a truck than its drivetrain. People who actually use trucks as trucks care more about simplicity and durability than they do about high-tech gizmos. AND the '09 is getting a 6-speed auto in ALL models EXCEPT the uber-base model 4.6 2-valve. What exactly would the 6.2 Hurricane accomplish in the F-150? Not a whole heck of a lot. SysEng
There's far more to a truck than its drivetrain. ... Agreed. However, even though the Tundra has a few oddities in its profile... a full length full boxed frame would be nice ... the point is that Ford is effectively undercutting its customers exactly at the point where you get Toyota undercutting Ford. Reality is you can get that top line drive train in a Tundra at a discount... against for e.g. Ford... And that drive train really is a huge improvement. The 5.7 has a few basic improvements for Toyota ( like they use a chain instead of a rubber band for the cams ) and one really significant change for the industry... they have "Toyota Direct Injection"... which means a high compression V8 can burn regular gas... Unfortunately, Ford's near abominable neglect of their flagship cars has extended into their truck line as well. Imagine a Lexus with that 5.7V8 and 6 speed tranny... especially if it were say TownCar sized...
96towncarcartier
Ummm..... Why is ANYBODY in HERE, on this topic, talking smack about the Toyoduh truck? We all know that Toyoduh built CRAP when it made it's Tacoma (you can take a rubber mallet and smash through the frame of the truck). We all know that the "new" Tundra that is supposed to "change it all" had recalls on its engines (bad crankshafts) and its brakes and transmissions (junk). We all know that the Tundra only gets FOUR stars in crash testing, has a FLIMSY frame that bends and twists, and the truck shakes violently when taken on the Proving Grounds in Arizona (video is online at YouTube.com) The truck is crap, it's an econobox trying to play with the big boys and fails miserably. Watch the video made by Rick Titus, in which he pits the Tundra, Ram, Silverado (NO front structure at all) against the F 150. It's hands-down which truck is built the toughest, and built to last. FORD. 31 years of sales leadership, for a good reason. NOW>>>>> I'm very glad that the CVPI is extended to 2011. I'm hoping it will stay in production past that, since there is still no official word about the car's replacement yet... and I seriously doubt Ford wants to lose any market share in the police car market.... Mom just bought a 2008 Grand Marquis LS, PB Edition. Thank you to everyone in STAP for building the best cars on earth. We love ya. Agreed. johnjyi
Does this mean that the GMQ will continue unti then? I'm still hoping to see the LSE option being made available by then.

Yes, far as we know, all Panthers will run through the '11 model year. Doesn't the MOD use a Chain? Always has. Well, chains, actually. The 4-valves have 4 of the suckers. Hemiman
Always has. Well, chains, actually. The 4-valves have 4 of the suckers. One of the most trouble free designs also. Pretty much just like that used by Mercedes.

SysEng
Ummm..... Why is ANYBODY in HERE, on this topic, talking smack about the Toyoduh truck? Duh, maybe because "Toyoduh"'s inventory of "errors" are all correctable and they have the overall idea down right? Duh And those "ideas" can translate directly into trucks... and cars... that could beat the outta the competition? And because they wil keep working at it 'til they get it right. Their minivan is a perfect example. Right off the wall dumb at first, but premium product today... ...meanwhile Ford's minivan... Duh, dey don't got one... ...oh right their trying to resuscitate D3
