Auto power locking doors are not new. our 1993 Mercury Grand Marquis had them. Other cars that have the auto un-lock feature present a security risk that is not acceptable or necessary since the individual doors (on our Ford) unlock and open from the inside by simply pulling on the inside door handle. In other words if you want out of the locked vehicle simply pull the handle and get out no other action is required until then the doors will remain locked and secure at all times. Push button start is a big wow in the showroom but in everyday operation it can be very inconvenient. Example: Husband drops off wife at the store and drives to a different location, when he comes back out he remembers the transmitter is in the wife's purse (it's her car) so he is locked out miles from the wife who is waiting for him to pick her up. The transmitter is only used to start the car, once the engine is running the car can be driven away from the transmitter leaving the driver SOL if he turns the engine off. This of course cannot happen with a traditional key ignition. As stated earlier the auto-down power window feature is convenient for tolls etc for the driver who is of course operating the vehicle. The passengers are doing nothing else so holding a finger on the power window button for a few seconds shouldn't be very inconvenient. For some people the detent in the 2-stage auto-down rocker switch can be tricky to operate in a moving vehicle. As a side note the Prius is Toyota's technology showcase vehicle but a sunroof and power/heated seats are not available, however HID headlights are a bling option, call the Toyota dealer and price a replacment bulb for them. It's $300.00 for just one headlight bulb. Points taken. But if these features have the inconveniences and dangers that you and other say, why do some car companies continue to install them? Anyone can make an argument that any feature is dangerous or inconvenient, e.g., Gee, I locked my keys in my car with the engine running and I can't use the darn keypad because I don't know the code. Those features are not installed just for giggles. They're installed for a reason. I guess it boils down to whether the features actually help sales. As I pointed out earlier, seems to me that if these features help sales for Ford, they should install them. Wouldn't you agree? On a related point, in the recent Lincolns, Ford did a study of what people were willing to buy in terms of aftermarket stereos, and concluded that many people at least wanted the option of a high-end stereo system in their cars.
