swenson88
Do all LS models require premium gas? I'm contemplating getting a used one but there's no way I'm buying a car that takes premium.

swenson88
Yes. Well, scratch that idea.
akirby
You do realize that the difference between regular and premium is still $0.20 per gallon (in GA at least) regardless of what the actual prices are. So even though regular might have jumped $1/gallon the added cost of premium is still just $0.20. It's still more expensive but not as much as some people think. Like I said the LS was more of an outside contender for my next vehicle anyways. To give you an idea I'm between most likely a Ranger, less likely Explorer or Explorer Sport Trac, and the LS. I've loved the LS since it came out, and used ones are going for decent money, but in reality living in MA the RWD-only thing is kind of a turnoff, as is premium gas only. That's two strikes. A Ranger 4x4 with similar miles can be had for less money, will be better for the winter, is mildly more practical for me given the amount of times I'll still have to move in my life, and it runs on regular gas. These things all add together to make the LS less appealing.

But yes, the LS uses premium gas like it or not. I get my gas from Costco so even Premium is cheaper than regular at all traditional gas stations. I love Costco! I hate to bring up an old post but I've had nothing but bad luck with Costco premium in the 'Rauder. My car just does not like drinking that crap they sell! 4d4evr-1
I have an '06 V6 and use mid grade with no spark knocking. I was told by the dealer that the chip can allow for a lower grade with the electronics. I will not have full power but will run fine. And you'll be getting lower mpg, so you're negating the savings of the lower cost gas by having to buy more of it.
Jazzhead
What about the Mustang GT and Crown Vic LX Sport? I'm considering swapping my 300C, and one of the things I'm trying to gain is a car that doesn't need midgrade ( a dime a gallon more expensive in these parts). Are either of these vehicles tuned to run their best on regular?
IMBoring25
Both.
postalworker
The Mustang GT runs fine on regular, and it is the recommended fuel. The only reason to run premium fuel would be if you had a tuner and upgraded parts (intake, exhaust, etc) for increased performance. My 05 GT runs well and performs great, but is completely stock . It's a great car for performance, ride and handling. You can't go wrong in my opinion. Edited June 9, 2006 by postalworker
