Ford Quality

To whom it may or may not concern:

I have an eye for detail and quality, after my 10 plus years as an automotive designer in the Metro-Detroit area. I have always thought the ideal job for me, would be a vehicle quality employee at Ford Motor Comapny. If someone at Ford is listening, I do have a resume.

The issue:

I purchased a 2006 Ford Mustang about 1 week ago, and I have been looking it over, and I have found one thing that shows why the Japanese started their takeover in the 1980's. It's called fit & finish! The dash pad on the pasenger side of the vehicle is nice and tight to the dash seams, but when you look at the dash just above the instrument cluster there is almost a 1/4" gap. You can press down in this area, and the gap closes to the state it should be.

When a company advertises "Quality is Job #1", you should deliver. One of the worst places you can miss fit and finish, is directly in front of the driver. It's not just my car, I have been to the dealers and seen this as the normal delivery condition.

Not many people care about what they do, but as an automotive/car nut I want things to look and function as they should. In a time when companies are worried about selling cars and how much money they make, they should look at what makes the product quality in the first place. "PEOPLE" If anyone at Ford cares, you can email me at: smithars724@yahoo.com and I would be glad to discuss any open issues or opportunities.

Thanks!

You want a job as a quality control specialist but you didn't see this "can't miss" fit and finish problem directly in front of the driver before you bought the car. Don't call us, we'll call you.

If you like Japanese built perfection then you should have purchased a new 4-Runner, there are multiple TSBs regarding the sunroof rattle noise. The 4-Runner is designed and built entirely in Japan. There are many other examples (Nissan) but the point is the Japanese companies are no where near as perfect as the propoganda claims.

We shouldn't look at what others are not doing as a benchmark for what we "should be" doing.

996r916sps, take it to the dealer. If you want Ford to be aware of the problem, and want to help, make them aware of the problem. Warranty claims do just that.

In closing to this topic:

That is the only flaw I found with the entire vehicle! Some of you on this forum "and you know who you are", just don't have a clue.

When I take the vehicle in for normal service, I will mention it to them at that time. This topic was not started as a "bitch/complain" session. It was started to let some people at Ford be aware of quality issues. I don't think this conversation is going to be the fix, because we have members of this forum who just want to ruin things for others.

I like to call this the "Bull in a China Shop Syndrome". All they do is run in, disrupt and shit all over everything, and leave". I apologize to all the realistic members of this site.

Thanks & Goodbye!

I have just discovered this problem in my 2005 Mustang. Rattling like crazy.

Your first post was 4 paragraphs of negitive comments about your new car. There were no compliments...not one.

You did the research, test drove the vehicle, examined it carefully and then made a major financial decision and purchased this new car. After your purchase you begin a topic called Ford Quality and complain about the car and Ford Motor Company complete with a comparison to imperial Japanese car companies, then you suggest Ford should hire you as a quality control specialist.

Only after someone pointed this out did you admit quote:"That is the only flaw I found with the entire vehicle!"

Well if that's the case then it looks like you made an excellent choice after all. Enjoy your new Mustang and I'm sure your dealer will be happy to fix the one flaw you found under warranty. Now why not write a post about how good the rest of the vehicle is. If only one flaw got 4 paragraphs then everything else should be quite a story.

If you're suggesting that people need to say something nice or say nothing at all, then this will be a very boring board.

I remember a time when this website was cool. Now it is all touchy feely.

You missed the point.

By the way, which is it?

You accuse me of trying to be "all touchy feely." but 996r916sps said:(without actually calling names) "I like to call this the "Bull in a China Shop Syndrome". All they do is run in, disrupt and shit all over everything, and leave".

Hilarious.
