OACville
Ford has developed a new way of painting cars. They will Prime, Basecoat and clearcoat all in one booth without having to let the prior coat dry. This will eliminate two booths, a couple of ovens and will require fewer people to run while increasing paint quality. http://ca.news.finance.yahoo.com/s/0408200...able-paint.html DEARBORN, Mich., Aug. 4 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- -- Ford-exclusive (NYSE: F) paint technology goes global -- Ford's high-solids paint technology eliminates the need for process stages in a paint shop, replacing bulky, energy-consuming equipment with a simple, integrated booth -- Process allows three layers of paint to be applied one after another while still wet, without manual intervention, resulting in a superior product created with fewer pollutants and less expense -- While Ford's global paint portfolio continues to expand, the new technology will be launched in the U.S. at the newly revamped Michigan Assembly Plant Edited August 5, 2009 by OACville

Builderdad
Wonder how many jobs will be eliminated in paint when they reopen MAP..... It would eliminate the need for prime scuff sanders so that is 6 per shift and if they automate the door jams and inside door panels that would be 8 more per shift so possibly 14 total per shift plus a couple of utility and team leaders. Back-Glass-Ass
How dare they take advantage of new technology..... I would be more worried about our international Union stressing that we should make concessions and then 3 weeks after the concessions are given the International gets their 3% bonus.
