Edstock
From Autoblog http://www.autoblog.com/2009/10/10/world-t...ace-in-the-u-s/ Marcello Lotti, series promoter for the FIA World Touring Car Championship, told Autosport that he wants to bring the event to the United States in 2011. Inaugurated in 1987, the series was originally based in Europe. In 2009, the racing expanded to Brazil, Japan, and Mexico and continues to grow. Current rules limit engine size to 2000 cc, but that hasn't slowed automakers such as SEAT, BMW, or Chevrolet from rounding out the top 3 in Manufacturer's Championship points right now. A race in the States would attract new manufacturers (Ford is expected to enter its new Focus model). :happy feet:
biggee72
From Autoblog http://www.autoblog.com/2009/10/10/world-t...ace-in-the-u-s/ :happy feet: Lack of replies to this thread is the reason they never had the WTCC in the US before. Nobody cares. However this is EXCELLENT news for me! Especially if they have it near me or on TV at least. I'm thinking it would be on NASCAR tracks or somthing more like Laguna Seca? The next focus is likely to be my next car so that would be great news for ford to come back. I know they ran the Mondeo on the BTCC. Ford Jellymoulds
Fords Capri has been Fords most successful car in touring car racing in Europe. Maybe a Fiesta econetic diesel thats been remapped from Jewish fuel miser mode to fast larry leadfoot mode if limited to a 2.0 litre engine. Extra torque of the diesel plus the lightweight of the Fiesta would give Ford the best chance of winning. Mondeo is to big and heavy. Seat's small little Leon Diesel powered cars look like becoming World Touring Car World Champions again this year. BMW must be pissed off because they are always winning it. Just like WRC rally which is very boring which has only two cars in it, battle Ford v Citroen, WTCC is not quite as boring it has just 4 car manufacturers completing against each other. GT3 & GT4 is the best Motorsport to watch at the moment it has more cars of different makes completing against each other. Ford neeeeeed to sign BMW's Jelley as a driver. IMSA-XJR9
I think the question is who would broadcast the race?! Maybe SPEED TV can tape delay the race for six months before airing . . . Sure would have been nice to watch the SPEED GT Challenge race live to see Brandon Davis capture the Championship.
biggee72
Teams will be back..WRC is still fun to watch but everyone will be back. And the focus is the perfect candidate for the WTCC..

NickF1011
Mondeo is to big and heavy. Have you not learned anything?
Ford Jellymoulds
I know they ran the Mondeo on the BTCC. It would be to heavy and sloooooooooooow to complete with a small 2.0L engine, against a Seat Leon thats much lighter with the Diesel engine pumping out more torque. Seat Leon Diesels the Worlds No1 World Touring Car. LINK
NickF1011
It would be to heavy and sloooooooooooow to complete I didn't see anyone suggesting that it would. Why take ANOTHER jab at it?

I know which driveways usually have kids jumping out from them and there's a sneaky blind turn that might put you in the woods on your first try if you go too fast.

The_Shadow1963
Check the mighty Mlhm5 poll thread under the Ford Motor Company Discussion Forum, post 3700. It's got a link to a great video of the lap. It's probably a good thing that car isn't available here; I'd simply have to find a way to buy one! AM2
I know they ran the Mondeo on the BTCC. The BTCC Mondeos... those were the days before the Mondeo grew bigger and heavier. By the way, here's the current generation Focus (Team Aon) racing at the BTCC. Its powered by a Mountune Racing tuned Ford 2.0 liter Duratec.
