Marcello Lotti, series promoter for the FIA World Touring Car Championship, told Autosport that he wants to bring the event to the United States in 2011. Inaugurated in 1987, the series was originally based in Europe. In 2009, the racing expanded to Brazil, Japan, and Mexico and continues to grow. Current rules limit engine size to 2000 cc, but that hasn't slowed automakers such as SEAT, BMW, or Chevrolet from rounding out the top 3 in Manufacturer's Championship points right now.

A race in the States would attract new manufacturers (Ford is expected to enter its new Focus model).

Lack of replies to this thread is the reason they never had the WTCC in the US before. Nobody cares. However this is EXCELLENT news for me! Especially if they have it near me or on TV at least. I'm thinking it would be on NASCAR tracks or somthing more like Laguna Seca? The next focus is likely to be my next car so that would be great news for ford to come back. I know they ran the Mondeo on the BTCC.

Fords Capri has been Fords most successful car in touring car racing in Europe. Maybe a Fiesta econetic diesel thats been remapped from Jewish fuel miser mode to fast larry leadfoot mode if limited to a 2.0 litre engine. Extra torque of the diesel plus the lightweight of the Fiesta would give Ford the best chance of winning. Mondeo is to big and heavy.

Seat's small little Leon Diesel powered cars look like becoming World Touring Car World Champions again this year. BMW must be pissed off because they are always winning it.

Just like WRC rally which is very boring which has only two cars in it, battle Ford v Citroen, WTCC is not quite as boring it has just 4 car manufacturers completing against each other. GT3 & GT4 is the best Motorsport to watch at the moment it has more cars of different makes completing against each other.

Ford neeeeeed to sign BMW's Jelley as a driver.

I know they ran the Mondeo on the BTCC.

The BTCC Mondeos... those were the days before the Mondeo grew bigger and heavier.
