longball
I would like to know if it is true that some retirees have the same level of medical benefits in retirement that we enjoyed as employees....I have heard many times that Michigan retirees did not take a reduction in benefits like we did in ohio...but yet our insurer is BCBS of Michigan...I would like to hear it from someone who actually has these benefits...thanks

I pay $30 / month UAW MED DEDUCT. But what you really have to be watching is the increase of what the Feds are now taking out. Look at your pay stubs. You will notice a 9$/month increase which started in March more to be expected. Edited May 13, 2010 by JohniesCash
Stugots
Higher prescription prices, office visits, really cute for people on a fixed income.-------------------------------------------------------It is our responsibility to look out for the retirees and guarantee them the way of life they worked so long and so hard for.-----------------------------------------------------------With the implementation of health reform and the veba we should be able to get them the coverage they so richly deserve.--

Unfortunately many junior employees thought differently.

We have to pay for all doctors visits....Plus a 540 deductable ....and that is only on the care that is covered....alot of the payments we make don't count against the deductable....then it is a 80-20 payment after the deductable is met....Don't get me wrong...I am very grateful for the medical bennies I had while I worked....but if we are not ALL(retirees) treated equally, then there is something wrong. The fact that no Michigan retirees are willing to comment is very interesting I would hate to see a class action against my union....but

I am a little wet behind the ears....but it is HOT here today... I am not a Michigan retiree but I would guess they have pretty much the same benefits, except for the monthly deductions, they had as active employees because of the massive amount of retirees there are in Michigan. Numbers mean power and with a large amount of retirees the union can negotiate better deals with the medical community. I live in New Jersey and ours are like most - no office visits covered, no physicals covered, etc. I know a retiree who lives in Florida and he still has an HMO with Humana where everything is covered as before. It doesn't seem fair because we all paid the same union dues so we all should have the same benefits in retirement.. Not having annual physicals is criminal because as you get older it is even more critical to catch things early so they can be treated inexpensively. The whole thrust of Obama's health care, I thought, was to practice preventative medicine because of there long term benefits.

One med that once cost me $15 every 90 days thru medco now they want $287. Needless to say I didnt refill that one. Nope we got the same crappy deal. My dr that I had for over 25 years no longer accepted the BCBS ppo after the 1st.

Not only did we pay the same union dues, but we are all paying the same $30 a month premium out of our pension checks which doesn't count towards the out of pocket maximum. We should all have the exact same coverage, either crappy for all or good for all but it must be the same or I can see some problems for the union and VEBA from a class action lawsuit. Where your retired to should have no bearing on your coverage.

rn4
I agree 100% The sad part is the letters we received saying there would be no change to your coverage, then 2 paragraphs down there's all the minor changes we could expect to receive. Just some minor out of pocket expenses. I guess our union forgot we only get so much money a month. The internationa is out pf touch on this one because they get to retire with a different set of benifets than us poor old working stiffs. If I would have known our coverage would have been this bad I would have kept on working.
longball
Something else to consider....every employee working is helping pay for our health care.If you are not in Michigan, you are paying for someone from " up there" to have better benefits then the people in your local....where is the outrage? Your not my sea daddy son. No the point you are making is that your State has problems so you want all the other States to have the same. What concerns me is when a socialist starts sounding like a fascist. Stop your sillyness if you can. That is all.

I don't know what a sea daddy is...I'm not your son....I depend on my state for nothing....But I do expect my UNION to treat all retirees the same....Try to stay on topic....Isn't it a little early to be drunk already? If you are paying for your kids medical bills, they not only don't have insurance, they must not have their own money or pride.... you obviously have BIGGER problems then retiree health care. Good luck
longball
Johnie....Now I see why you don't get it....you are OLD and using our government dole to pay your medical bills....you don't have any idea what the younger retirees are going thru.... I'm sure you have no idea....Now I get he "State in Trouble" statement....all about getting money from the government....nice, but no thanks....I pay my state....they don't give me anything. I know many older retirees .... they don't think the changes are a big deal either....You are not informed on the subject I am trying to discuss.
