Bill Ford's 1980 Mercury Capri Convertible

Thats pretty neat, though I wonder about the Mercedes rear end on it...was it IRS? :stirpot:

Mercedes cars of that vintage had an independent center differential bolted to the body/subframe and a half-shaft with CV joints out each side running to the rear wheels. The rear suspension had a main subframe bolted to the body, to which lower A-arms were mounted that had the rear hub attached. A coil spring and shock were used on each side, and a torsion bar connected the two sides.

I know the ASC McClaren cars used Mercedes SL roofs. I can't imagine any benefit to using a Benz rear suspension that would have been worth the cost.
