Any more info on the Focus ST Ecoboost engine?

Recommended Posts

Been reading through Press releases from Ford about the I4 Ecoboost engines and it seems like that all they need is 87 Octane gas in them...however the Ecoboost 2L in the upcoming Focus ST is going to be a "performance" engine..so does any have an info it its going to need 91 plus octane to run in it or is it going to be same deal as the Taurus SHO, where it will run fine on lower grade gas but you'll get a 10HP boost if you use Premium fuel?

engine would likeley be tuned to deliver more hp at higher RPM than the engine going into the large cars.

it should run on 87octane but look to for the peak HP to move from the 6000rpm of the Taurus and Mondeo to 6500 RPM, and torque peak to be lower than the 250ft/lbs

because the torque levels are so high and the ST will not have a mecahnical LSD (limited slip differential) the torque output will be extensively managed by yhe ECU in lower gears as well as higher gears, to manage wheel spin. this would also help the Transtion control from destroying the brakes.

over 240ft/lbs is too much for a small FWD car, it can hamper the driving pleasure.
