Adding MFT Navigation After Purchase

From what I can tell all the hardware is in every MFT system from the factory, and you can order the navigation maps on sd card from ford parts for around $180-$200. I believe you can't just pop the card in and have it work, does anyone know if there will be a dealer software flash option or an aftermarket hack to enable it? The availability for factory installed nav is low, on top of already tight inventory so I had to settle for one without. Thanks!

I'm guessing they will eventually make it so it can be enabled. I've noticed that on occasion during startup that my car will try to check for the presence of the rear view camera even though I don't have the parking package. It'll give an error and then I just hit okay and won't see that message for a week or so, so clearly all of the software is loaded into the system, it just needs to be enabled and you'll need to get the SD card.

I would also believe that you would be able to simply purchase the SD card with the software included. It will likely be just as much or more than the option currently costs as someone previously said.

I am interested to see what would happen if I take the SD card from one vehicle with the nav system and place it into the SD card slot of another vehicle with MFT. A imshakn said, with regards to the review camera, the car is searching for these features it seems. So it seems just plugging in the SD card may give you navigation.

Someone already tried just plugging in a SD card without the Navigation software being loaded and it didn't work. The nav software is not on the SD card - that's only the map data.

Ford could offer the software and the SD card for dealer installation but they haven't chosen to do so yet. Unless you can hack in to get the Nav software loaded you're SOL until Ford decides to offer it. I suspect they were planning to do that but are putting all resources into fixing the problems with MFT.

Thanks for the info! I didn't see that! I'm sure its only a matter of time, but lets all hope they stay concerned fixing MFT bugs! I agree!
