2011 Edge Lmtd paint issues

Hello everyone,

Last week my wife and I replaced her VW Tiguan with a 2011 Edge Lmtd. We got a great deal, but the dealer had a lot of work to do on it. It was on display on the grass of their dealership and got drenched by their sprinklers. That in turn left the vehicle covered in hard water spots (it's black too). After working to get them out, which not all did come out, we found several blotches(like splatters with runs) in the paint, along with an excessive amount of pitting from what I assume was rail dust. The dealers own body shop said the only cure was to repaint the car. So after what I would consider way to much haggling, they agreed to replace the Edge with another one. They are saying they have never seen this problem before.

Has anyone here seen this paint issue before? It literally looks as if a water balloon hit it, splattered and ran down. These marks are much lighter than the black paint, but are difficult to see out of direct sun light. They cover the car, from the front of the hood, to the front bumper, fenders and upper door rails. A quick look at a couple other black vehicles on the lot failed to find this.

This has been frustrating to deal with, and I am sure my dealer will be happy to see me head down the road and never come back, but it's just not something I was willing to just live with on a $35K vehicle!

Maybe it got hit with something while it was on display. Large bird, egg, etc.

I just picked up the new one and it has no issues. Well, except for while inspecting it, I found it was badged as an SEL not Limited. A VIN check verified it's a Limited, and a new badge is on order....LOL

As for the first one, the MGR of the body shop came to look at it, and said it was something that happened during the paint process. And yes, they offered to paint it, which I rapidly declined!

having not seen the vehicle, were the paint defects(staining) limited to specific areas? my thought,if the vehicle was build from June forward, could be ecoat drips. can be removed with solvent.if u need to know how i know this you'll have to pm me

Yes, front bumpers, front of hood, top rails of doors. Build date was 7/11. The dealer got me a different vehicle, and all is well with that one, but thanks for the offer of help!!

This would be a dealer issue as the bumpers are already painted before they reach the assembly plant where the body's are painted.

I can tell you that paint is not what it used to be. When I bought my 2012 Focus I got three paint chips from what I am sure was bug hits, and not rock chips and this was in the first 2 days before I had a chance to put 3m on it. Now an hour after picking up my Limited Turbo it was in the shop being covered with 3m wrap.

Prior to buying this vehicle I rented one and noted that the edge get a lot of paint damage on the lower front bumper.
