Traveler
The thing is these recalls do not probably impact sales of trucks and SUV in 2006 like they will the market that they struggle in...mainstream sedans and its this market that is important to Ford's long-term success. This is the type of media fodder that has the Honda and Toyota fans shaking their heads and never considering a Ford. The F-150 is highly regarded in its class and those interested in one will unlikely consider the problems of the past when shopping today. However, the bad publicity poisons the minds of those Ford need to win over. Ford's serious problems come for the future where increasing gas prices and better competition become tougher to overcome. Year after year, Honda and Toyota chip away at marketshare. Those buying Civics, Corollas, Accords and Camrys today may shop for a truck in the future and brand loyalty will win over buyers if the Japanese trucks pulls closer to Ford. Ford and GM have enjoyed brand loyalty purchases for years, now the fight for scraps at the table for domestic buyers. Ford is no doubt the leader in producing half-ton trucks and larger that are used for contracting work, light to heavy. Where Ford stands to lose its how it manages itself to those who shop elsewhere for their personal car purchases. If you've been a happy Toyota owner for years and want a half-ton, the Tundra is going to be a serious contender for your money. If you're not performing highway construction, I imagine the Tundra will suit your needs. You can't cut corners on quality and you nip problems ASAP rather than sweeping them under the rug before they come back and bite you. Right when Ford needs positive publicity, this stuff is splashed all over the nightly news.
J-150
yawn. recalling the same switch. Hey, did anyone notice how Bridgestone admitted the Firestones were crap? No? Thats because the anti-Detroit press buried the story. They would rather hate on Ford than to tell the truth.
altaforddealer
At least Ford has the Guts to stand up and say they will look after their customers, see if toyota or honda could do that and tarnish their phony quality crown! besides the media would find that to boring to do instead of beat a dead horse like Ford.
