47Minutes
So this happened on my way home last night. Elderly driver turned in front of me. Thankfully my wife and daughter were not with me and I have only some scrapes and bruising on my left arm from the airbag. I am very pleased with the car's crash performance. In particular the 911 Assist function. While I was dazed wondering where my sunglasses went after leaving my face the car called 911, reported a crash and gave the coordinates. As soon as it disconnected that call, the 911 operator called me back and took details of what happened. I was also surprised and pleased that the rear seat side airbag deployed. I would not have expected it to given the front/left nature of impact. But had my daughter been with me, that is where she sits so I am pleased. After opening my claim I am all but convinced it will be declared a total loss. While that is hard to take because I may not be able to replace her with another one, I know she would never be the same if she were repaired. The hardest part of this all is potentially saying goodbye to my 47 Minutes. I can't even hope that I would ever win another car in my lifetime and certainly not one that I've enjoyed and loved as much as this one. I will at least get my license plates back as a souvenir. hybridbear
I'm so sorry to hear this! I'm glad that you aren't seriously injured. I really hope the insurance company will be helpful and that you can get another Energi. Hopefully the elderly driver who caused the accident has good insurance that will replace your car. MountainLion
What might push it over totaling is the airbag deployment. Unfortunately I have experience in this. My wife hit an elderly man (in a Ford Edge) broadside pulling out in front of her at 40 MPH in her 2011 Fiesta SE. She saw what was happening and braked heavily - no airbag deployment but she needed a new front clip, hood, and associated parts to the tune of $7,900 - but no airbag deployment at all. I thought that her car, with 52k on it would be totaled, but the insurance company paid it full and it has been rebuilt since then.
Bailey151
Oh man, what a waste of a perfectly good Fusion. Glad you're okay. So what......were you bucking to be in the next "he survived" commecial?
SteakNEggs
Our '10 Flex was broadsided by someone running a stop sign. http://i57.tinypic.com/b6am9i.jpg 14k in payments from my insurance to the dealer body shop. Replaced rear passenger side panel, door, wheel, interior headliner and had side curtain airbag deployment. Way more than we owed on it and way more than we just where offered for a trade in. I'll never understand the business, two months wthout a car, a lower value and more money put into it then we thought was worth it. I heard this is becoming the norm. 47Minutes
It's official. Total Loss. Now I get to start negotiating "fair market value". Body shop estimate was up to $22,618 and change and they hadn't looked for suspension damage yet.
