concourspilot
I scoured the SD Forums but didn't see any oil threads. I'm awaiting delivery of my new rig and was wondering what oil weights others are using. I live at 9,000'+ and drive mostly above 6000ft in temps that are rarely higher than the mid 80's and sometimes in the mid 20's at the peak of winter. I take an occasional 1000 round trip to Texas usually once in the winter and twice in the Summer with temps in the 95+ range on the summer trips. I've used Synthetic in all my trucks jeeps and motorcycles usually a Mobile product. Does the 6.2 operate better with some oil weights over others (my JEEP happens to operate better with a non manufacturer suggested oil weight) Second question.....Should I change the oil as soon as I take delivery? concourspilot
Nobody changes their oil?
92merc
I think the general consensus is the Ford recommended oil weight for your vehicle will work just fine. The engine has been designed to handle all the conditions you've mentioned without going to a "special" weight.
akirby
I change mine but always use the factory oil. They test it in Yellowknife and Death Valley - doesn't get more extreme than that.
SilverLS
I agree. What is says in the manual is what I always use.
