buck121
I didn't see this question posted any where else , so I figured I would post it here I have a 2007 Ford Edge , I don't have dual climate controls , just the single control for both sides. I had the heater core cleaned and flushed out 3 years ago , after having no heat , now I have heat only on the passenger side , I was told by my local Ford dealer that the Heater core needed to be removed and cleaned out , I could see this if I had no heat on either side , bit with normal heat on passenger side , I don't see how this is possible ,am I correct on this ? fordtech1
Chances are the dealer is correct the core is particularly restricted. If you rev up the engine in park does the heat start working a little better? Not completely uncommon. Was the customer satisfaction program performed a while back? buck121
Hello , Thanks for the quick response Ok I thought it was odd , but like you Said it is partially restricted, it does work a little better when you rev it in park, what is the customer satisfaction program ? MKX1960
Wasn't there a recall on this? I had an 07 MKX and traded it when I heard about the heater core issue.
buck121
No , I called ford and there was a customer satisfaction notice issued on contaminated cooling system that was to be flushed out , but that expired 2009 ,and no recall , so I am taking it to another mechanic for a second opinion
buck121
I took it to an independent mechanic and his diagnosis is blend door stuck, but you have to replace the entire heater core housing , which is an 8 hour job (1500.00), so I guess I have a warm weather only vehicle ... fordtech1
Does it go to cold When command it?
fordtech1
Ive never seen that happen on the edge. Unfortunately I disagree with his diagnosis. The entire dash would be cold not just one side If it was a door problem. Is it automatic temperature control or is it manual?
buck121
it is manual control , the mechanic is saying that the blend door on the drivers side is not opening to let the heat from the heater core in , so you only get the outside air , so I'm not sure what is going on, this mechanic replaced the heater core two years ago , so he claims it is not plugged. fordtech1
There is only one door so I highly doubt its broke. The passages in the heater core are very small. If the block wasnt flushed like the recall stated it will cause repeat restriction.

buck121
Thanks for the link .... I called Ford and they said CUSTOMER SATISFACTION PROGRAM 09M04-S1 expired in 2009 .... maybe I should write them a letter
fordtech1
I knew it expired but I thought there would be some pretty good information. Its so old I dont think theyll do anything for you unfortunately. It may be worth paying a dealership to do that procedure or a reputable independent. It could save you money in the long run because if you replace it again and if you still have contamination youll be in the same boat. buck121
Thanks for the info ,I have to call around to get a quote on this procedure ,like you say its so old that Ford wont pay for it , its kind of odd that this is showing up now after ten years and 125,000 miles, but it was slow to plug and I had the core replaced two years ago , but if I have the system flushed out the heater core probably wont get anymore plugged then it is now.if I don't do anything it will eventually plug completely and then no heat at all
fordtech1
Ford wouldnt approve a new core under that program. They fully trusted this procedure. Its a big pain in the butt but t does work
