I have one of these. It works great for what it is designed for but I have used it more to lift other things into the bed of the truck. Last thing I hoisted was my air compressor.

 

It’s a little sloppy but works fine.

Looking forward to your outcome. I do not have one of these but have read a lot about them the older we get the harder it is to get heavy things into your truck bed. Maybe I'll copy your idea when finished.
