If you believe that you are equal to a big Ford exec., I would advise you to submit your resume, and ask for a seven figure salary. These people are more like free agents, and go to the highest bidder. Their abilities are proven, and well known. If Mark Fields was not producing at the level of Ford's expectations, he would no longer be working for Ford. We live in a different world. The more that we do, the more the company expects of us. Our wages are dictated by the union contract, so there is little or no incentive to excel. No matter how incompetant we are, our jobs are protected by the union. Very few great people are spawned from such an environment. Many potentially great people, working under this system, use their genius to milk the system. Others start businesses on the side. The company does not benefit. It loses. For a company the size of Ford, this is not an issue, but it is a well that they could tap if they ever needed to.

Steve Wilson's, (or should I say Ted Baxter's) bosses know that Detroit is populated by a lot of people who make good money, but have little upstairs. (They also have a lot of people at the other end of the spectrum.) Maybe he believes all of the crap that they tell him to read. No, I believe that he is just like a lawyer. You have a point to prove. Spin a yarn that will appeal to some people who are vulnerable. It works in the short term. You are playing with the big boys, and you are basing your story on flawed logic. It is going to come around and bite you hard on the ass.

Maybe Steve can get BON to take this thread off the sticky, and it will go away.

Sparks, the one thing you can count on is that if Fields fails at his job, he won't be working in the automotive business again. This will be the resume stain from hell. Probably his kids won't even be able to work in automotive...

It is my opinion that the majority of folks I have met in the plants would have been more successful elsewhere. Obviously, I do not know you, so take this as just an example. What if you had started your own electrical contracting business? What if Ford does outsource electrical trades? Maybe they could outsource right back to you? Who is to say that you wouldn't be better off coming back to Ford not under a union contract that holds you down, but under your own contract that could set you free?

My point is that it is wrong for Fields to talk down to you. Regardless of what he might think about your current position, he doesn't know your potential. The only thing I will say in his defense is that it is really hard to know how to speak to large group of people. It seems that dumbing things down is the usual way.

Trim, I do think there are exceptional people that work on the lines. More of them should be rising in the company.

Ford used to pay me around 70k to be a Product Specialist. I was good at it, too. They now pay me way more to sweep the floor. Go figure. This is a big company. An individual has to look after himself. Do what ever is best for you. Your genius will just be gobbled up by your superiors for them to advance themselves. That is the way that it is. This is not school, where you get a star if you get all of our work right. This is life. Some drunk driver may run you down through no fault of your own. Life is tough, and you have to tough it out.

Your post is so full of sh*^, T-man, it could fertilize the entire back 40.

Could it just be possible that Ford's troubles, in general, are due to the fact that expectations of people like Fields are too low to allow Ford to excel in an increasingly competitive industry? Just askin.

Tex Baxter? Oh come on man, can't you do better than cheap-shot personal attacks? We all note that you have yet to point out a single error of fact in my reporting...and not asked a legitimate, serious question of me as you have so often said you want to do. Heck, at one point, you even claimed I wanted to debate you and that only failed to come about because I'm just not up to your giant intellect. Right.

And your assessment of the Metro Detroit viewer as generally stupid only belies your own ignorance. If you're so hot, why are you, by your own admission, an overpaid sweeper? Was that always your goal in life?

Finally, as for playing with the big boys and basing my reporting on flawed logic...Gee, I've been playing with "the big boys" more than 30 years now at jerkwater outltes like CBS New York and ABC in California. Maybe I should have gone into acting since, in your estimation, I've just well covered up my fraud in journalism all this time?

Look, Pal, I've said before and I say again: I am far from perfect and certainly not above honest criticism. Yours, however, is neither honest nor grounded in anything other than your own mind where Detroiters are stupid and anybody with an opposing view is a fraud.

With all due respect, Sir, get over yourself!

As Bill O'Reilly likes to say (yet seldom does): I'll give you the last word.

I did not say that Detroit people in general are more stupid than the general population. However, because of the high number of high-paid jobs in the Detroit area, the average intelligence of the people occupying them may be lower than the national average of people occupying similar paying jobs throughout the country. Are you comparing yourself to Mark Fields? Mark Fields is trying to save the Ford Motor Company. The Ford Motor Company is very important to the economy of the Detroit area. You are trying to destroy the Ford Motor Company. If you want to commit suicide, why don't you just get a gun?

My post is as full of shit as the back 40? Is that not a cheap shot, Ted? Would you care to elaborate; or do you need to first refer to your spin doctors? I do not have any spin doctors, nor do I have a spell check. All of my logic is based on proven fact. I don't try to shit anyone, unlike you.

Steve, you had better listen to your new mentor. Maybe he can give you some pointers. You are a laughing stock. You need to retreat, or you will lose your "job".

I can't believe that dark270 has managed to dig himself out of the tons of manure that I have buried him in.

Assisted suicide is illegal in Michigan. Besides, I don't think Fields needs the help. He's doing fine on his own.

Que sera sera. At least he stands on his own two feet. If he screws up, he is gone. That is unlike us. If we screw up, there is no consequence. (I was talking about Wilson in the "suicide" metaphor.)

as Mullaly takes more hold in this company, Fields will drop slowly out of the picture...much like Anne Stevens did...but in watching the Ford family, and seeing how they operate...we'll be paying for Fields long into the next decade...he's a loser camoflaged as a winner..the first "way forward" was his and Stevens deal...the accelerated plan was more Mullaly's...even though he wasn't officially in Ford yet, he was in way before WE knew it...believe that

I agree his fall will make Humpty Dumpty look like a rubber ball.

In our plant 2 contractors have most of the work sewed up as far as electricial work goes, I have put out feelers to them for the future for I am taking the buyout and going back to my trade. I also have talked to other in realated fields that come into the plant just in case, you never know.

Maybe I have never liked I guy that couldn't talk to people without the smug attitude. It is like anything else in life the one that are down to earth will EARN my respect much faster.

Maybe Fields will be gone. Who knows? He negotiated his compensation package fair and square. He also stuck his neck out. Did Ford make a mistake when they fired Lee Iacocca? He went on to greater things. Maybe it was political. If the media can manage to smear Fields enough using phony tactics, maybe Fields will have to be let go too, or maybe not. These people rise and fall based on their own smarts, and/or luck. The last thing that they need is a pack of yapping Chi hua huas at their heels distracting them from their jobs. The public in general is real smart. That is why casinos and lotteries are making big bucks. As P.T. Barnum said: "You will never go broke underestimating the intelligence of the American public". Wilson knows that too.

Let this one go, would you? Moving forward...

I will, just as long as myself, or xr7g428 has the last word. Steve Wilson gave me the last word. He gave up. You all should do the same. :finger:

Who started this story? Who is now trying to back out? I say, let's play out the hand, unless you all want to fold. You can either just hide in the corner, admit that you were wrong, or prove that you were right. Steve Wilson took a big shot at my bread and butter. To me, that was first blood.

It doesn't take a great writer to prove a point, if his point is valid. On the other hand, it takes an army of spin specialists to create a smoke screen to dupe the impressionable non-thinkers into believing what is wrong is right. It worked with the baby boomers in the sixties, and it is still working to some extent to-day. That is why the New York Times is such a fat newspaper. Spin takes a lot of space. People should spend less time being brainwashed, and more time thinking. If someone is telling you something, he is assuming to know more than you. Maybe he is trying to get something from you. In the old days, people used to run these charlatans off their properties with shotguns. To-day, they infect the media, and are much harder to get rid of.
