I think a lot of you are going to be incredibly disappointed because they are getting ready to turn Mercury into a Scion like brand. It will no longer be positioned between Ford and Lincoln. Rather, it will be a brand apart -not below- from Ford and Lincoln. So for all intents and purposes the Mercury you have known for years IS dead. Get ready for extremely decontented, radically reskinned B and C cars called mercury. Also get ready for a new logo.

i seriously doubt franchise agreements continue indefinitely. when they do expire Ford simply doesn't renew them. Problem solved.

GOOD GOD! I said it twice so someone wouldn't reply with this stupid comment. They buy them because they are BRAND LOYAL listen, when ford gives these folks a better choice in the future, these people will take it. But right now Ford is a one trick pony for MPG....

Ford could reskin a car to look like a turd and as long as it got 30+ mpg it would sell in this market. The focus isn't selling because it looks good. It sells because brand loyal idiots can't afford their gas guzzlers anymore. I've asked a number of 08 owners about their car. The first thing that comes out of their mouth is "it gets good gas milage" They don't want these cars, but they are brand loyal and this is the only thing from ford that gets in the 30s.

I would have to argue there is no cost in closing the mercury franchises. If the dealers really want to bitch then convert the mercury franchises to Volvo. Another way could be to not renew any mercury franchises and slowly let it die. But to do that they would have to start taking action now.

you posted the 83 Cimmaron.....but I was thinking more of the Caddy Caterra. Now THAT was a failure. Lincoln first needs to shed its old people car image like Cadillac did, and THEN worry about sporty smallish cars. If you would have told me 10-15 years ago that Caddilac was going to have a monster like the CTS-V I would have laughed in your face. That brand definitely came back from the brink. I'm not sure the Lincoln ship is turning fast enough. They need something so 180 that people look at it and go "THAT's a Lincoln?" Kinda like that Saturn commercial.....except the internet only version. "That's a fucking Lincoln...? Shiiit."

uh no, it means it has a V6 in it that makes numbers similiar to a V8 and gets V6 MPG numbers.....IF you don't get on it. no replacement for displacement. This vehicle will be as successful as the Freestyle. In fact, I call it the Freestyle II. SO when it FAILs miserably in a few years we can rebadge it the Taurus XX. another thing, call the "Limited" trim level something else. There is nothing "Limited" about 10000+ of the same thing. my SVT is limited, this is just pandering.
