  1. Interesting. I did not know that. I hope it didn't continue into the 2010 models.
  2. I think what you may be seeing is crushed up leaves and dust that came in through the opening at the base of the windshield. Also, if your vehicles had the writings and other markings that the dealers sometimes use to write their specials on the windshield, those debris may also have gotten in when the were prepping the vehicles for delivery since they merely scrape it with a razor and then wash the vehicles.
  3. I like the concept and application. Curious, though. Did they think of an override/self-cancel in case there's an issue with the starter or somthing? That way it doesn't just keep cranking? I can't recall if the manual mentioned it stopping after so many seconds.
  4. I had a thought and would like to know if any of you may be knowledgeable about this. The satellite antenna (shark fin) on my 2009 MKZ is starting to wear on the cover due to its shape and size. I was wondering if the flatter oval shaped ones that come on the 2010 MKZ or any new vehicle for that matter would work on my 2009. Thanks!

    2012 Focus

Being a One Global Ford Focus, I really wonder if the coupe-cabriolet version will still exist...especially with the situation with Pininfarina.
  6. You know? As long as Ford and Lincoln can bridge the gap that is currently filled by Mercury, I really wouldn't see an issue. I've normally gone for the Mercurys over Fords because they had certain upscaled things. Now, a Lincolnized Mariner would be something I would consider. I especially love the cooled seats in my MKZ. :happy feet:
  7. I've done that. Yes, it's in the manual. It started at least with the 2009's. My MKZ has it. Pretty nifty, eh? The only thing I don't like is the integrated key/remote. Personally, I'd prefer separate key and remote fob.
  8. That's true about where the blurb was stated in Wiki. However, I thought I saw some postings elsewhere on BON that hinted at the end of the Mariner. I think it may have been the Escape/Kuga to be built in Louisville thread. I started this thread to see if there was some insights available. The main reason for my doing this? I am considering ordering a new one within the next year. I would like to see if the Mariner continues and, if so, what changes are being made.
  9. I was reading the write-up for Mercury Mariner on Wikipedia which stated that the Mariner would be discontinued due to lack of sales. So, I was pondering whether the Mariner line would be continued into 2011 and beyond. Also, rather than a Mercury version, would it be feasible to turn it into a Lincoln somehow? Just a thought...not trying to piss off anyone. Any thoughts -- or even better -- any insights?
  10. Thanks for the input! I will probably start getting serious in spring/summer. Enjoy your new one!
  11. Hi, there! To start, congratulations to your wife and you! I am currently reading up on the 2010 Mariner myself since my kid recently told me that she'd prefer my 2007 Mariner over the 2008 Focus I was planning on giving her. Good grief! Anyway, from what I've read thus far, I think your wife is right on it being "bigger" but only by a few inches all the way around...but not by much. I haven't test driven one yet so I wouldn't know about the electric steering. However, I think the turn radius increased a smidge. Starting with the 2008 models, I believe there were some minor tweaks in the shape and style. I think it would just be a matter of getting used to the slight differences. Good luck! P.S. Which version and equipment did you get on the Mariner? Just curious.
  12. I would venture to guess that the premium floor mats would be the slightly thicker ones with the "Fusion" strip sewn on. It would probably also have the edge wrapped like the ones that would normally be ordered through parts. Just a guess though.
  13. Whenever I ordered a vehicle, I obtained a copy of the invoice from the dealer. I don't believe a customer can obtain one outside of that loop since the invoice is sent directly to the selling dealer. One option is to price it out using the invoice prices from sites like caprices, cars, kbb, etc. This total would be off by around $300 when you factor in advertising and fuel.
  14. The only concern I have about these new companies like Fidelis is just that...they're new. How long would they be around before they disappear with your money? Again, personally speaking, I would stick with ESP if you do plan to get it. It may be worthwhile for you to risk it again since you haven't had any issues before. Good luck!
  15. Just think, y'all...come December 21, 2012, none of this will matter, right? Of course, if these fanatics really care about some sort of statistical symmetry or anything, the date would likely be 12-21-2112. This was just a joke.
  16. I do not have a hybrid; however, I am one of those folks that actually purchase the extended service plans. Mainly, I get the premium (top level) plan since most of my vehicles are equipped with a bunch of electronics. Granted, I may not use the plan; however, I just like the peace of mind. It started a long time ago when I used it to have the transmission repaired. Since then, I normally get the coverage.
  17. Not sure if you've figured this out yet or not, but here's an updated suggestion...based on what my dad recently did with the Jeep Liberty I gave him for this purpose. He actually towed it down from Virginia to North Carolina with the key in the "lock" position because he forgot to put it in "off" which is actually one click toward "run" on the Jeep. Anyway, he didn't have any issues until he pulled into a gas station and made a sharp turn -- at which point the wheels locked. Ergo, I would suggest this. Get into the Focus, put the key in, and turn the steering wheel in either direction. If the steering wheel locks, then, you would probably need to put the key into the "off" position. Per the owner's manual, the "off" position is actually one click toward the "on" position from which the key can not be removed. Here's an excerpt from the manual: Positions of the ignition 1. LOCK, locks the steering wheel, automatic transaxle gearshift lever and allows key removal. 2. OFF, shuts the engine and all electrical accessories off without locking the steering wheel. 3. ON, all electrical circuits operational. Warning lights illuminated. Key position when driving. 4. START, cranks the engine. Release the key as soon as the engine starts. Note that there is no "accessory" position. With the key in the "off" position, no accessories should be operating. Good luck!
  18. Huh?!? So, a hybrid w/ FWD will have rear disc brakes, but a hybrid w/ 4WD will have rear drums? I was thinking the regenerative braking system would require four discs. Guess not. Thanks!
  19. Would someone with the Hybrid Escape and/or Mariner please answer this question? Does the Hybrid model have four-wheel disc brakes rather than the drum rears? Thanks!
  20. Hey, megirldeth! Congrats on your Mustang! Hope you enjoy it a lot! Good grief, ford4v429. A trio of Mustangs? I thought having two was bad enough.
  21. Hey, congrats! :happy feet: Yeah; the paint seems to get thinner every time. But that should really not be a big problem as long as it's in places that are not exposed to the environment constantly. As far as Ziebart goes, I would recommend it since you said you will leave the car outside a lot. Just make sure that the Ziebart shop has a large customerbase. I used to take some of mine to the local one. However, the shop closed due to the owner's health. Also, make sure you sign up for the long-term agreement since that gets you subsequent re-applications at a reduced amount. Regarding the extended warranty, I personally would. That's only because I've used it on a couple of my cars that I kept for several years past the first three years. However, that would be something you'd have to think hard about.
  22. Oh, drat! I hope this is not what will be coming to Mercury. I am hoping for the Coupe-Cabriolet.
  23. I'm sure it's too soon for this question, but I am curious after reading a thread elsewhere on BON. If March 2010 is Job 1 for the 2011 Mustang, when would the 2010 order have to be in by to ensure build? Thanks!
  24. Naw! The Escape apparently does not have the lumbar support after all. This adjustment is normally a knob on the right side of the driver's seatback. None of the brochures or owner's manual for the Escape has this whereas the Mariner does specify it. That's pretty interesting.
  25. You're kidding! I did not know that. My bad.
