Ford hasn't demonstrated that they're serious about getting rid of seniority employees. Neither has GM and Chrysler. The buyouts they offered were decent for low senior people or those at or near retirement, but Ford's problem is that they have a huge group of people with 20 years and less than 50 years old. That group still needs health insurance and can't quite get to pre-retirement. If they are serious they will give enough cash, say $140k, and extend the pre-retirement to anyone with 20 years at whatever age.
